Flutter is caused by the lack of a BOV. Theres another 11ty billion page debate thread on whether its dangerous or not.

true, but a BOV that is too tight will not open under low boost situations and give you flutter, however it will open when you are on full boost

I hate it when people come in and just say go with stock, whats wrong with personalizing your cars sound??? Yes stock may be fine but that doesn't mean he cant get something that sounds different.

Some people don't like blow off valves and that's their preference but they shouldn't shoot down someone wanting one.

If your wanting a decent basic blow off sound with flutter down low revs id recommend the Greddy RS or the new RZ.

Really good bovs and you can tighten it to what suites your preference or plumb it back if you want.

Ah ok, I hadnt heard of doing it like that.

I got defected for BOV VTA a couple of months ago around the corner from the erd head office  should I have contested it?

OP: I have a Tial 50mm sounds good just a nice quick exiting of air no silly putchuu chu cheeeee ft ft chu

If your car is stock why do you want to chang it?

Thats funny Anna copped a atmo bov defect in the sil80 just around the corner from ERD too, they must all sit at Yatala Pies and wait!

dude there messing with you

the flutter although it sounds great it actualy doing damage to you turbo!!!.

if you have your bov spring too loose it doeasnt vent properly so the air is forced back through your turbo (the wrong way ) to the

doooo dooo do do dod do do noise you hear is the blades of your turbo cutting through the air .

as for bov increasing power im no expert but if that were true it would be stated in the sticky about skyline power mods .

Awh nu someones sarcasm detector is busted, PS air doesnt go backwards through turbos, the sound you hear is what heppens when the turbo is pumping more air than the engine can swallow so yes the air stops flowing but it doesnt go backwards.

And if it is not opening at low boost you know it isnt opening at idle wich should avoid a lot of the stalling problems if you run it to atmosphere.

why not.... when people put atmo bov's on their street cars just for noise/wank factor they draw attention from the police which in turn makes all of our lives harder.

nup its cause they sell Krispy Kreme at BP Stapylton - budum tish! :)

Id agree with that.

Personally i think the stock BOV sounds like a sack of crap with a pod filter. But thats just me. I stuck to the stock airbox for a while because of it. But even with the stock airbox, it still sounds pretty horrible.

I came accross a brand new Genuine GReddy RS for a ridiculous price. Thats the only reason i bought it. Im quite fond of the sound and managed to tune the richness more or less out of it. Flutters a bit with low rpm, but nothing to worry about.

BOV's are not the reason cops target these kind of cars, And is buying a nice sounding exhaust a "wank factor?" no, theres nothing wrong with making your car sound the way you want.

Some BOV's sound like absolute crap and some are really nice, hense the reason for these kind of threads.

and if its illegal in your area then don't get one. simple

Hard. ive just gone back to the factory airbox after having an HKS pod, sounds 100% better and has more response.

Factory r33 series 2 and r34 turbos sound like poo through a pod.

Id agree with that.

Thats a very similar reason to why I changed mine, I dont like the sound of the stock one and I got a Greddy Type RS (Copy but, not genuine) for really cheap brand new. Mine is plumbed back, Sounds a bit like a SSQV but a bit more original.

I get peoples points but, theres alot of people that go buy blow off valves thinking they will get power gains and look heaps sick but end up with a stalling car that chews fuel.

No, they are not THE reason.... but they don't help... and they are not required for most applications like an exhaust is....

for a car to make, lets say 300rwkw (as that's the new 200rwkw) you NEED an exhaust, however the stock bov is totally fine in 99% of applications

i am running the stock bov with an HKS 2835 and it has seen 20psi all day every day for over 2 years now, and has been on a couple of excursions to 30psi when a vac line popped... never missed a beat

also... why do you think the cops always look for a bov when they pull you over? its because they hear atmo bov's from across entire city blocks and it attracts their attention... the wrong kind of attention... for no reason other than sounding fully sick

:)

Yeh i understand where your coming from. so that covers the performance side of things, but the OP wanted to know the best sounding BOV also.

TBH im just sick of people knocking blow off valves, getting a nice sounding one does NOT make you a poser or a wanker or whatever.

I just want my car to sound nice and the way i want it.

And im in NZ so cops dont give 2 sh*ts about blow off valves. and ive never been pulled over for the sake of having the car i do

If you have aftermarket turbo, block off your blow off and get the flutter going. Everyone on here pretends that they hate it when really in my opinion, its the best sound. Just 'cos someone wants flutter doeskin give you a free ticket to bag and abuse a member.

wait guys are bovs illigal even if you get them plumbed back????????

my gtt is fitted with a ssqv along the cooler piping blowing in the atmo, so i just bought a plumb back nipple to connect a hose from it back to wer the stock bov plumb back pipe is.

sooo wat im doing now will make the bov leagal and no chance of defect on the bov???

    • So where is this message group so we can organise another meet? Keen to come along and catchup. Might eventually be in a skyline again next year, but the Mustang will have to do for now. Also need to get the WRX back on the road. Stupid f**king money pit that thing is.
    • Stock equivalent turbo replacement is a bit of a nightmare. The old Hitachi ceramic things were pretty good for their time, but they have primitive, vintage aerodynamics. The only thing they have going for them is a light turbine**, and there are plenty of other light turbine options these days, in both materials and CNC manufacturing methods. So, the old stocker makes absolutely no power at all compared to its physical size and its (not very low) boost threshold and response. ** and the ONLY thing that was good about the ceramic turbine was that it was light. In all other respects it is a nightmare. To get a turbo that is anywhere near equivalent in terms of power capacity (ie, to avoid it being "bigger" and needing tuning/fuelling/etc) you have to physically downsize. And that is not a "stockish" replacement. Doesn't just fit where the old one did. At least a frame size down, probably need a new dump, probably need new inlet and outlet piping made on the compressor side, new hose connections as D said above. I say, if you have to suffer that much work, you might as well do the same work to fit an even bigger (than stock) turbo, have more power (and hence have to do injectors, ECU, etc), and love life, instead of suffering with stock power levels. Or, you get a light highflow from someone like Hypergear. A highflow that has not been pushed too far from stock. There are still modification consequences here though. HG's cores are smaller than the massive Hitachi core, so it is shorter, moves the compressor housing backwards and requires mods to the air side piping. Plus new hoses. Looks stock, mostly fits where the stock one did (with the previous caveats mentioned), makes a bit more power but can be run at stock boost levels and not cause too many ECU problems. But, seriously. It's 2024. Like - 25 years since the R33 came out. It's time to put an ECU in it. I Nistuned my car (on RB20 ECU then later again on the Neo ECU) and it was the single best thing possible for minimal money. Dial out the R&R bullshit, fix up the fuelling and timing to make it more efficient for normal driving (cut fuel consumption by >10%). Nistune is not an option for you unless you change the ECU, so you might as well just do a standalone. it will be worth it. And then you can tune it up to the limits of the injectors and AFM, which is pushing 200rwkW and enjoy some actual squirt, instead of the lazy barge-like motion you get from a stock engine, turbo and management.
