I got the clutch on today, I suffered major retardation and put the flywheel on without the dust cover when the engine was out of the car (and torqued it up properly). So i had to pull the flywheel off, put the dust cover on, and put the flywheel on again. Good thing we saved the input shaft from the R33 when it blew the gearbox a few years ago, made aligning the clutch plate easy as. Big bad RB20 box will be going in tomorrow.

it's looking very likely to be from some block called rodger for the usa, 3 way adjustible. been asking a local tuner down here who has set the suspention up a few sucsesful Targa cars, and he recomended Penske and Ohlins over MCA. Because the Penske and Ohlins engeneers will valve to the specs you ask for, and Murry does what he wants. The shocks them selvs are much of a muchnes, appart from the Penske and Ohlens being lighter than the MCA (aloy vs steel).

Ohlins is way too dear, and if the valving needs to be modified i've got somone here who can say the valving needs to be changed to be xyz, i need somone who will try to get al close to xyz as possible.

Got the gearbox in today.

Kerry's car looks nice, but have passed since it isnt registerable. I would consider an unregistered car if it had more fruit in the way of brakes, wheels and suspension...but since it isnt registered will keep looking around.

oh yeah, forget about that. Being in tassie don't think twice about a car with SI, makes it hard in Vic i recon.

I got myself a GTR fuel tank on the weekend. Originaly got it cause i thought it would be lighter (plastic vs steel), but when i put it beside the Gtst tank, i found it was a fair bit bigger. I just found a service manual which says the gtst has a 60l tank, i'd just assumed it was 72l like the GTR. Should be all set for some E85 action now.

Also fitted the steering wheel. Planning to get some alloy donuts to make the intercooler piping up next.

    • From the pictures I have when doing the job the flywheel is the same diameter, I don't think they're playing weird tricks like putting weights at the outer diameter to increase flywheel inertia or anything like that. The OEM flywheel is definitely heavier, but it's not a huge difference. Quoted weight savings of the clutch is 2 kg so I can't imagine the flywheel being lighter than ~7 kg. Kind of regret not weighing it before the clutch went into the car but as far as driveability goes I have no complaints.
    • HKS trigger kit should be very easy to integrate with a Link. It's a 36-2 crank trigger. Hard part is finding the motivation to take off the timing belt and everything on the front of the engine to install it. You also need to cut out a hole in the oil pump housing so the sensor can read the trigger wheel. Changing out the cam sensor for a 24 tooth setup is probably good enough but as others have mentioned depending on what underlying assumptions are changed it becomes more of a problem. Reading the crank state off of the cam is an abstraction that works in the general case, but if you have an edge case it makes less and less sense. There is a GTX2860 gen 2 that can take a compact 5 bolt housing so it's direct bolt on but I'm not 100% sure of what's involved. Peak compressor efficiency drops off a bit on these turbos vs -5s, 77% vs 73% but you get way, way wider region of operation. The -5s have a really strange surge line in their compressor map that is all over the place. If you think the hot side on the -5s aren't open enough you can try the Tomei T550B turbos which a local tuner seems to be happy with:
