Victoria police catch hoon via Facebook

A 20-year-old man from Castlemaine in central Victoria has became the first person to lose two cars for good under the state's hoon legislation.

He lost his Ford Falcon sedan valued at $3,000 after being found guilty of careless driving last December.

In May this year, he was found guilty by a magistrate of driving in a manner dangerous when deliberately doing burnouts at a country highway intersection in November, 2008.

He was fined $2,000, had his licence cancelled for 18 months and was ordered to hand over his second vehicle, a 2005 Ford utility valued at $21,000.

Police were notified to the offences after a member of the public handed them photographs and video from social networking website Facebook.

Senior Constable Grant Healy from Castlemaine police said he was pleased with the decision.

"This bloke has had plenty of warnings but we have had enough of this type of dangerous behaviour," he said in a statement.

"It really does send a clear message to would-be hoon drivers that not only do we have the support of the public, we also have the support of the magistrates when it comes to getting these menaces off the road."

Police have impounded more than 8,000 vehicles from dangerous drivers since anti-hoon legislation was introduced on July 1, 2006, including more than 1,500 this year.

Sen Const Healy said the power to immediately remove dangerous drivers from the roads was another way to reduce road trauma.

Police are removing around 50 dangerous drivers from our roads every week which can only make it safer for other drivers, he said.

Around 80 per cent of drivers caught are aged 18-30 and 63 per cent are 25 and under.

Seriously though... how stupid would you have to be... "I'll just post up videos of me ripping skids so anyone and everyone can view them" :P

    • Welcome.  Glad to hear that you have gained some knowledge that has helped you. I believe the only fix for the power steer belt is an electric conversion with a Holden astra pump. If you get a chance, post pics of your car, please. 🙂

    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.
