hey guys just need some clarification before i jump on the clutch upgrade bandwagon.

so i have a R34 GTT 5sp manual of coarse and with the usual mods im pushing out 236rwkw daily on stock clutch. car has done close to 86000.

over the last few months (3 maybe 4 months now) ill notice if i drive the car hard on 3rd at around 4500-5000rpm onwards the car free revs and at times does it on fourth. now i dont always drive my car hard. only if im on a cruise or feel the need for a little kick. it dosnt happen all the time but it mostly does it in 3rd. 1st, 2nd at times 4th and 5th are perfect its only always on 3rd and the occasional 4th it will free rev. but under normal driving conditions the car drives fine.

does this mean my clutch is slipping and it needs to be replaced? basically iv been told it could be the solenoids thats causing the slip or free rev. iv never had to get a clutch changed on any car iv owned let alone one thats pushing out more power then stock. have been told the easiest way to check if clutch is on its way out is to put it in gear with foot on the break let of the clutch and accelerate (kinda like doing a burnout but not dumping the clutch) and see if it slips. is it best to check it that way?

any help will be great.

From the sounds of things its the clutch and to be honest at that power im suprised it holding so well.

jim berry does an awesome clutch kit give him a call...it feels like standard (on the foot) and grips like a gorilla to a banana.

Save/buy and aftermarket clutch ASAP cause when they start slipping they usually go downhill fairl quick. I drove mine around with a slipping clutch for maybe 3 weeks max and by the end of it i was having trouble geting the clutch to grip in any gear to well lol. Plan ahead so when it does give up for good, your ready to replace it and dont have to organise it all after it happens

Not gonna last much longer,better save up and change a After Market Heavy Duty Clutch.. Try to Avoid Button clutches if you want to rev and dump,it will cause damage in long terms.

ER34 Clutch,pull type=not cheap..

Solenoids calling the slip or free rev?

Did they even know your car was manual?

As has been said, replace clutch as soon as you get a chance. It is definitely slipping and there's no need to do a slip test. Turbo cars have their own test called boost :blush:

thanks guys. ye im not sure what they were on when they said its the solenoids lol

have already planned for a new clutch just wanted to confirm. dont want anythingt oo crazy as i dont do hard driving. will be going exedy HD clutch.

yeap ash, go for exedy hd mate, i got one less then 2 weeks ago, love it!

i notice with the r34 hd clutch, the pedal feel is firmer then the HD in my old 32.

my stock clutch was holding up fine at 200rwkw and went to 1 skidpan day, i smelt it burning up but wasn't slipping at all, just changed it for piece of mind.

stock clutch can really handle the punishment too :blush:

I wouldnt recommed a exedy hd ill assume you mean a single plate. Mine lasted about 9 months. Get the Jim Berry full monty. It would have saved me a fair few bucks if i went with one of those first instead of being conned in to buying the exedy which was supposed to last.
