Boxter S is the 'big block' 3.2 yeah? normal Boxter has a 2.8 from memory... not my cup of tea but would be a nice drive on the right roads... there are a lot of the top end Porsches getting round near my place but the owners always dribble around in them... hardly ever see one being driven as intended... I think they should stop posing and let me drive hehe

That's the thing, I didn't get a chance to have a look. The minute i tried to have a look he spooled up and shifted and a big plume of smoke covered the plates from vision. It would make the search a million times easier haha

oh come on!

smell the coffee

That depends on how old the Boxster in question is, the first ones came out with a 2.5l in the basic and a 2.7 in the "S" version. Each update has brought with it bigger engines, but I think the "S" version is always roughly 200cc's bigger than the base version. The current one is 3.2l in the base and 3.4l in the "S."

Around the track most skylines out there will get anally gang raped by a decent porsche.

Their rear end grip is just out of this world.

While we're all worried about bearings and 10/15/whatever year old datsun parts wearing out and breaking, porka owners just throw on slicks and enjoy their dry sumped engines with nice things like oil coolers etc standard on all good models

A carrera4 around town will make the skyline work for it, check their torque figures.

A turbo will make GTR's work for it anywhere a GTR is usually quick.

A GT3 is just SO much better in almost every aspect than a built GTR (the only place they lose is that sheer "oh gosh darn im going to die" style acceleration with a to4z or similar)

A GT3RS will do the same as above, but enjoy non fading carbon brakes and completely adjustable suspension standard, plus they're so visually appealing.

A GT2, well, just let it go, skylines really have to be completely built/worked and have a driver who knows what they're doing.

Im not saying that it isnt possible for a skyline to be faster than the porka, just that its going to be very costly.

GTR owners secret weapon (the 8000rpm clutch dump launch) is almost the only thing we would have against a porka in a situation like this one......but now porsche are introducing launch control. Do a youtube search for gt2 launch, you'll be impressed.

Moral is; dont under estimate the porsche brand just cause they put a basic motor in their "mid life crisis" car

lol... I think he means wake up?

Not sure though. Most mildly modded skylines can beat porches, especially boxters...

very very true 10psi ,fmic, exhaust no problems taking down boxter's talkin from experience right here lol

I think most people in the know, know just how good the higher end Porches are, but we're talking about a Boxter S here...

That being said, no one mentioned corners... a Boxter S will still do pretty well on a track against most 'lines...

You guessed correct Andrew

Basic comparison, carrera4 and a selection of skylines;

R33 Gtst:

2498cc twin-cam 24-valve turbo EFI straight six RWD 1370kg 184kW 294Nm 6.21 14.4 5 Spd man/4 Spd auto 2-wishbone f't, multi-link rear vent disc, 4-pot calliper, 1-pot rear, ABS

R34 GTR:

2.6 DOHC 24V twin turbo 6cyl 4WD 1540kg 206kW 392Nm 4.9 13.1 6-Spd man ind. multi-link vent disc, 4 pot f't calliper, 2 pot rear, ABS

R32 GTR:

2.6 DOHC 24V twin turbo 6cyl 4WD 1480kg 206kW 353Nm 4.7 13 5-Spd man ind. multi-link Vented Discs

Porka 4S:

3800cc DOHC 24V 6cyl 4WD 1480kg 283.4kw 420nm 4.7 6spd

vent disc, 330mm F + R, ABS, Dry Sump

Also the porka has 305/30/19 rear tyres, so its got more footprint over the skylines. And much nicer to be in!

There's a suprisingly large amount of 4S's out there, i see more of them than GTR's. God help us if GT3/2's become more common. Check their specs;

GT3:

1395kg, Dry Sumped GT1 motor (solid lifters rb26 style), 4.2 to 100kmh, 310kw, 8400rpm, 405nm, 6spd. Yes its NA, the throttle responsiveness is crazy

GT2:

1440kg, dry sump, 3.6 to 100kmh, 395kw, 685nm, 6spd, launch control, variable vane turbos (much reduced turbo lag)

The stock GT3 makes more power and torque than the stock R34 while remaining lighter with better brakes, dry sumped reliability etc.....and is much nicer to ride in/drive. Of course this changes if the skyline's had 20k thrown at it

Anyway, this could go on forever, so ill leave it here.

what year model and price range for a carrera 4?

they range from early 90's up

Sadly not, but I'll keep my eyes peeled! My Miata makes a blistering 82kw at the wheels! I think a snail on the pavement beat me off the lights the other day. Left a nice thick black line underneath and a lot of shell smoke. I also get beaten by those scooters old people use!

Damn!! my motorbike makes more power hahahah 86kw @ wheel hahahah :)

And a GT2 is cheap???

the GTR with the right driver and same money spent will always spank the rest of the group.. thats y they were banned from racing world wide.

GTR wasnt banned...Group A Ended

Because Holden and Ford bashed their teddys, chucked their bikes in the bushes, and spat their dummies because they couldn't beat the Skyline and the Sierra Cosworths.

They then decided to create the "Supercar" series which had to be made up of Australian V8 vehicles, which left Group A with no major influence as all of the bogans went to the V8 dark side.

I remember watching the crowds reaction after Sir Jim won Bathurst after an inclement weather windback, and all of the bogans booed him. Better still was his speech where he called them all a pack of arseholes.

Holden and Ford were beaten by Winfield (Skyline - Richards & Skaife), Johnson Racing (Sierra - Johnson & Bowe), Winfield (Skyline - Olofsson & Crompton), and B&H (BMW - Longhurst & Cicotto). Holden came 5th in the VP Commonwhore followed by another Skyline team (Advantage).
