Hey all

I understand that this topic would have been covered 1million times. But ive searched around and its hard to make up my mind.

R32 Gtr

Rb26dett Oil. I do my own oil changes always have, always will. went into a Auto1 yesty and asked the guy for a oil filter and began to talk to him about Oils and what i should run. Since this is my first turbo car i dont no what to put in her and i dont want to do the wrong thing my engine/turbos. He kept tryin to sell me this Nulon 10-30W mineral oil, it was like 30bucks for 4L. In my head im goin Sorry mate but i dont think so. cheap mineral oil mite be ok for my 1994mod 2.4L hilux work ute, but it sure as hell not goin into my gtr.

Ok so i understand the oil works on Engine Temps and what the car is used for. I have a APC radiator and my engine dose run very cool when street cruising and with a litle bit of sprinted driving here and there. On the Engine temp Guage on the center Console the temp sits around the Needle thinkness over the 70deg, so id say around 80deg.

The car is used for every now and than cruise and want to begin track days within the next couple months, just tryin to find a oil that i can just use, walk in the shop buy it and walk out and use it every time. no muchin round, if u no what i mean. I also will b changing the oil and filter every 3000k's to keep right on top of it.

Also How many Litres should my engine take, ive got a Oil cooler in the front bar so that should take 1L or somthing.

I no alot of people are just goin to say Motul Motul Motul Motul V300 or what eva. Im just tryin to find somthing thats not stupidly prices 26bucks for 1L is pritty pricey when your changing the oil every 3000ks. But i dont no, hence the reason im typing this right now. haha

anyway thanks for everyones help.

cheers Deano

Your changing every 3000km/s? With the filter?

I don't agree with that, see the General Maintenance Oil thread sticky.

Furthermore, if your changing every 3K, most fully synthetic oil additives probably won't have started to take effect after a few thousand km/s, the oil filter will be just getting better and then you change it again

Anyway, you could probably get away with a non-fully synthetic if your changing that often...I don't recommend mineral oil though, get a fully synthetic of some kind.

performancelub.com has the higher quality items for a cheaper price, have a chat to Harold if you want them. But $14/litre will still be expensive if your changing every 3K of street driving.

Oh, ~4litres for an RB26, pretty sure the others are similar, that does not include oil coolers...

Nulon is a reputable brand of oil. It is "inexpensive" because it is a mineral oil, that's all.

What you want is a SAE 10-W30 or 10-W40 grade that meets the API spec SM or SL or SJ spec - anything less than SJ, forget it. You probably want a synthetic oil, although semi-synthetic and mineral oils will work fine as well.

As long as you stick with one of the "brand name" oils - stay clear of the "home brand" stuff - you should be ok.

Oh, I've read that the newer Castrol edge is group 4 in USA. I think its the same in Aus, but haven't tried it personally, anyone used it?

i found castrol edge to be a little too thin, i spun a bearing using this oil.

only my opinion though, it was on a stock bottom end.

i was using mobil 1 before that, then decided to change because i was told a thinner oil would work better given the small oil galleries of the GTR motor.

i'll never use Castrol Edge again, Mobil 1 for me all the way. never had a problem with this oil, keeps temperatures low and is great from startup.

I had an oil leak develop from the rear crank oil seal the moment i went to Motul 300v.

Swapped over to Castrol Edge and the problem went away.

Found out with a google that many people have found the Motul product gets past seals....food for thought.
