I think wats goin on here is this. The guys has either a stolen or imported car (no compliance) which is i good cond. He then finds a written off vehicle that mathced the good car and swaps the id no. all over the car such as engine no. and vin no.

If this is what is happeneing, i wouldnt go near this person, as if the police or transport found out they take ur car off u becos this is highly illegal.

Aside from the legal issues that could arise from 'swapping' components from one car to another (ID plates = very illegal) - a performance car that has had some chassis replacement work! Ever hear of 'structural integrity'?

so when u talk about swappin chassie....do u mean a cut and shut job as in two separate half cuts joined together for 20k?? for 10k maybe but not for 20k. u know for 20k u can easily pick up a clean car if u look around and bargain. id stay clear of this guy cause u "will" loose ur car and if u get into an accident chances are the car will be a write off when it shouldnt be and more importantly might cost u ur life cause its not structurally sound.

glad u jumped online to ask for opinions on this subject.

hmmm, i'd say not to.. what happens if you go to sell it and there is a problem later down the track? You've just lost $20k!!

I don't see any reason why they do have to do the whole swap to be honest unless something is awry. Anyhow, my advice is to forget it.

There is a vehicle securities register (the number is on the vicroads site). One test you can get will just give u an audible check on it (e.g. that vehicle doesn't match any of our stolen vehicles on file). The other one is a paid one ($100 ?), that will actually give you indemnity or insurance if you like if it is actually repossesed.

if you want a nice skyline, i mean i could prolly sell you mine for $21k (with stock skyline rims).. 11months reg, mods a plenty, full history (got all the import papers), blah, blah. I mean when you can get cars like that for a similar price to what you're gonna pay, why take the risk at all? Although the only problem is i'm no longer sure i actually want to sell it :-s yes, small problem i know!

The situation here is that importer/supplier is using a chasis off an australian car which is the same chasis of the car which is being swapped.

The car is illegal in australia which is why this swap of chasis must be done to dodge around that problem with it.

The only thing needed to be ask is that if it'd be legal on road?

Well we have all told u not to do it, but in the end it comes down to u...

It too much money to risk, and it sounds illegal. U will get stung down the track with insurance or gettin ur car taken away if somethin dogey did happen with the swappin of plates etc.

SO i would just buy a normal s/h car not this one...
