Auto Diff

Was wondering if there were any options to upgrade the stock open diff that comes in the Auto V35?

I have found that on take off @ a busy intersection the back left wheel will break traction easialy and then traction controll will kick in and everythig slows down. Was thinking that a LSD would help since power would go evenaly to both rear wheels. Have also noticed this when turning right and giving it a bit of stick mid turn

Badluck, but my LSD Diff breaks Traction just the same as yours! Lol

Therefore you turn the VDC off when you're ready to take off from uneven surfaces...

To do the same and source out a workshop manual in English in any format as I can only find a Japanese CD Workshop after countless searches! :(

vLSD is similar yet different to the LSD that you're thinking. Mechanical LSDs are illegal and these viscous LSDs that we have tend to deteriorate pretty quickly. Grab some Penrite 75w140 and chuck it in until it overflows and she'll be right - for now.

How do you figure a mechanical LSD is illegal?

Also, changing the oil with a viscous LSD will do nothing to help the diff function as it is all contained inside the diff in the silly mega thick fluid in the center.

I know up here that changing from a viscous to mechanical LSD is defectable. I think it falls under 'modification of safety equipment?' Will do some more DD.

Sorry, my mistake. Was mixing up locked vs Mech diffs. Locked is illegal.

Changing the fluid will help it function as it should. God knows when the last time they were changed in these cars was (prior to our ownership). Like any other fluid, it deteriorates and breaks down over time. Changing it helps the diff's efficacy.

Locked is probably illegal, having said that I have been through a full inspection a few times ages ago with a locked diff in a vl and was passed each time.

Yeah, chanhung the diff oil is a good idea, but the fluid that does the work, the viscous fluid, is actually sealed inside the diff center. You can't get to it. The fluid that drains out is just lubrication for the bearings and gears, and has nothing to with the limited slip function of a viscous LSD.

If you make them work hard.. yes, the viscous fluid overheats and loses its viscousity, and the whole thing becomes more like an open diff.

If you just drive them around as your normal 'daily' then it should maintain its LSD function for much longer.

There is a thread somewhere on here where the vlsd centre was cut open on a lathe, repacked with silicone grease or whatever it is, then rewelded back together, seemed to work out ok, better than shimming it solid anyway.

my Y34 is open diff and 6-bolt half-shafts with ABS.

im putting in an R34 GTT helical LSD centre into it. retaining factory final drive so it doesnt throw the speedo out.

if someone puts pics up of the V35 diff, people can suggest OEM replacements that fit (Or can be made to fit).

oh ok so thats why my 350gt 2003 auto coupe sways badly on wet road .very dangerouus to drive in rainy days

feels like left rear wheel wants to move first or faster than right rear wheel.

if u put new tyres at the rear end , left tyre wears out way faster than right side tyre.

checked alignment ,suspension all good but still fish tails on wet road even on low speeds.

I should mention all your V35 rear diff bushes will be flogged by now and leaking silicone grease unless you have had them changed already...

Same goes for the compression bushes in the front.

I just changed my diff bushings today.. 2 front bushes were still ok and squirted silicone fluid when I cut them out. Rear had just started leaking fluid, but still had a lot in it when I cut it open.

Compressions rod bushes are common too.. I took my car for a WA a couple of years ago and they said these bushes were shot. I replaced them with whiteline bushes. The old ones looked ok when I remove them, no splits or cracks, but I guess they had just become too soft..

Yeah I remember that. He used some insane weight (something like 1,000,000 viscosity) of RC car oil to fill the diff center or similar. Said it worked a treat.

What acronyn is 'RC' Josh???

    • That's true. However, this problem has started since the tuning. First time with the return journey from the tuning. But yes, the pipe was clogged with dirt and rust. That was certainly due to age

    • Bumping this up one last time.... I wanted to follow up on the clutch slave issue. I realized that what the issue comes down to is the pocket is flat milled, and the cylinder does not want rest flat. So in order to mount it correctly you will need to make a spacer for the fingers so the cylinder is floating. I took two plates of aluminum, drilled some holes and was good. I did still need to make the relief cuts in the bell housing, as even with the spacer the bleed section still interferes. The OE bell housing the mounting holes are raised from the housing.       
    • If the event in USA goes ahead will be interesting as it seems the rules will get more cars over here. Apparently the track is laguna seca too. Yeah s15, if I get a the lower dash trims, centre console and change front cross member to standard LCA position will fit clubsprint. See how rules are as i would rather do complete widebody than a bolt on flare to run the 295 with proper clearance.
    • If the car is legal height I can't see it being an issue. Found a thread on reddit that might offer some insight.   I got a ticket from a copper in QLD for my S15 being too low. They had this wheel thing on a stick that they put under the car and it hit my exhaust. Anyhow went to an exhaust shop to get the exhaust tucked up/hung a little higher and I wound the coilovers up a smidge. Don't think I even had to go back to the police station unlike when I got defected for having a carbon bonnet when I brought the S15 from the ACT to QLD and had to replace it and then rock up at a police station and have a yougish female officer who knew nothing about cars confirm that I had changed bonnets. Should have just painted the carbon bonnet yellow to match the rest of the car lol
