Interior Lights

i have a 1994 4 door r33 RB25DET and i have been trying to wire in 2 interior neons under my driver and passenger dash.. i have wired them into the headlight 12v wire and earthed them to a bolt thats attaching the chassy, all good this works fine.. but i tried to wire in a toggle switch so i can manually switch the neons off if i got pulled over by a cop (because i'm pretty sure its illegal to have neons?) i realized this wasn't going to work because the headlight wire would keep my neons on no matter what because its being powered straight from the battery so i took the neon wires off the headlight wire and found a random wire that was 12v and the neons worked when i put my accessories on but when i tried to wire in the switch i must of done something wrong and put double the power to the neons and it started smoking a little bit under the ignition so i took all of that apart because obviously it wasn't a good thing, then wired my neons back to the headlight cable and thought id leave it at that until i work out how to do it properly.. now the only lights that work inside my car are my hazard lights, air conditioner unit, cigarette lighter, indicators and all the speedometer lights like hicas, fuel light, handbrake light etc.. nothing else works properly, CD player doesn't work my clock works but it is really really faint and the sounds my car makes like the reminder that i left my headlights on works but it is also very faint i can only just hear it.. every one of my fuses are good i have checked and double checked and triple checked the the fuses in the boot the dash and under the hood.. is there a chance i have like burnt out a few wires or something like that? also if anyone was wondering my headlights, high beams, indicators, breaks, tail lights, everything on the outside of my car work fine its just a few lights inside...

also to save sending another thread, does anyone know what i can do to wire in a toggle switch for my neons? i cant seem to find a good website that explains it good.. id like to wire them into the headlights so they come on only at night when i have my headlights on but i want to make it so that i can switch the neons off and keep the headlights on whenever i want... if thats not possible id like to just set it up so that they only come on when i manually switch them on? any help would be great....

you should be able to use the headlight 12v and just connect the negative wire off the neons to a ground point, put the switch on the 12v wire you ran to the neon tube and away you go. if the switch is off (effectively stopping the power) the neons will be off, but if the switch is on, the neons will only work when you have your headlights on.

nope i keep blowing headlight fuses... do you mean set the neon up positive to headlight 12v wire and negative to earth, then connect another wire to the switch positive to the wire and negative to earth? im a tad confused

ok i have my neon lights wired into a switch now (thanks to the person who helped me) but im still having problems with my internal lights, all my fuses are good but i still have a faint clock no power to my cd player and the emergency sound for when u leave your lights on is there but faint also.... anyone who knows what ive done wrong please help

as far as the headunit goes grab a 12v test light from somewhere like repco (under $10)

Unplug your headunit harness and test the wires one by one with the test light (the tip of the test light on the wire in the loom and the clip part to a ground on the chasis)

one of those wires should give you power (this is your constant 12v)

then switch on your accessories and do the same, the first wire should still give you power and then a second one should also light up the test light (this is your accessories power)

then do this once more with your headlights on, and a third wire in the loom should give you power, this one will be your illumination.

That is all you should need to wire up the headunit correctly, if you have a wiring diagram from when you got your headunit you should be able to just swap over the wires on the loom to match and it should work.

As for the interior lights, have you checked to make sure the bulbs arent blown?
