i got a 33 turbo on my 32 with rb20det, external gate, screamer, fmic and exhaust,

running 1 bar atm and it seems to be fine, any less and its a slug, i was thinking about changing the springs to run 17ps (1.15bar)

ive run this much with my avcr and it seems fine, any experiences with this much boost?

Its not going to matter what engine its on...the turbo will fail at 17psi and a few hard stabs at the throttle

What a load of crap.

how do you figure that.

the turbo is now on a car that has 500cc less capacity and 0.5:1 less compression.

to produce 17 psi of air flow on the RB20 it spins at a different speed and creates different amount of heat than it would on an RB25.

having said that, I didn't go past 14psi on my RB20 with R33 turbo.

having now said that, since a hiflow from hypergear is now about $800, I wouldn't be too fussed if it popped.

ext gate on a stock turbo - i could think of better things to waste money on :)

But either way, 15-16psi is the absolute limit and the turbo wont last forever.

It's still ceramic, its still going to suffer from heat... which is the killer.

Then you add to the fact you are now spinning the shaft ever faster than RB25 owners (who's turbos generally die 12psi+)... its all asking for a turbo death.

Heat + excessive shaft speed = failure

thanks so much GTST , finally someone who knows what they on about,

i been drifting on 1 bar for a while now and i know its not at max efficiency yet cause when i run 1.1bar i can noticeably feel the difference mid slide, it smokes up a lot more, so i just wanted to see who else has been running 1.15 bar and are ok? to give me a piece of mind, ppl said 1 bar was too much on my rb20 with r33 turbo but it seems absolutley fine

lol its not a waste of money , i got it for next to nothing and it was cheap to weld on :) my car is a slider so gate was a must for me hahahaha

plus when it blows its got an appt with GCG :)

but im not ready for that atm hahahahaha so just doing a bit of homework b4 changing my gate springs tonight :) thanks for your concernthough~! :)

hahaha youre awesome zebra, good to see you like hardstyle so i cant say your 100% a top bloke lolol

try to add something constructive into your posts man im after some info not your jibberish unbacked opinions...

theres aLWAYS one of you tools in every thread.. lurking around lolol

i reckon you can run more boost through a 33 turbs on a rb20 compared to a 25 zebra so im gonna have to disagree with you there buddy :)

Can you explain this for us Nismoid?

Boost is just a measure of the resistance of the head, for the shaft to spin quicker on an RB20 there must be less resistance...

I'm no RB20 expert, but what you're saying is the RB20 head flows better than the RB25 head?

Just keep smashing boost in to you find the limit of the 25 turbo , then fit another n try again

Nice pick of your 33 gts-t there mate :)

Hey mate,

This is a bit of a trial and error excercise for you. As stated above you can run more boost through it cos its an RB20, not as much stress on it as a 25.

1.15 will be fine I reckon. Put a few heat protecting mods like heat wrap or a turbo bag around it to protect it more and i reckon you'll be able to run 1.25-1.3 at drift meets.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30掳 silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30掳 silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
