New Wa Emmissions Laws

Any other joints in Perth mentioned possibly starting a test facility?

Assuming the government is doing some bussiness under the table with Kostecki's, I'd bet theyre going to harrass any little workshops out of staring another test facility. Whatever corruption it takes to make us import drivers extinct.

I call for another wave of protests, complains, and a Skylines Australia political party in the house.

Between this, new hoon laws and growing requirements to make a car road legal, I can garuantee the SAU forums will be completely inactive in 5-10 years time.

Gents,

Warning for the thread,

Any acts of criminal damage, or suggestion will not be tolerated.

I have deleted two posts already in regards to this.

There will be no soft warning on the next post that I feel is in line with these ridiculous comments!

ive always said the we are a country run by children or maybe i should say leemings cause if one poli jumps off a cliff im sure the rest will follow.

this emmissions thing cant be too bad tho cause the japanese have a 5yr or 100 000 kms policy then its a new engine rebuild or trade-in time i think, and the street car scene there is rollin out fine.

also i dont think its the murdoch cops cause there was a WRX hatch unmark cop car down my way that had pulled up some random in an old integra that i went past today and i was packing myself cause i was speeding at the time too lol

Simple, don't go through the pits to do your mods, just do them, then hope you don't get yellow stickered

The one of more impact is

In addition, the following applications require an IM240 test from 1 December 2009:

o Newly imported vehicles manufactured prior to 1989.

Which is a way to stop grey imports under the 15year rules etc.

With only one place in WA that can do it, the queue will be a couple miles long :bunny:

Now THAT is one fked up law... cars that were made and fall under emissions laws from that era are never going to pass even in stock form.

Sounds like you guys are heading the way of Victoria - totally fked up for no justified reason.

No it isnt ...

hehe, you mean not just yet

This is how it's gone down in Vic basically... The first set of laws and EPA enforcement open the door for the rest of the stupid Gov't bodies to then go and create laws and rulings upon laws and rulings... basically making it impossbible to own a reasonably modified car and have it street legal.

The EPA full test in this state is over $2,500 - And the catch is simple - If you fail the test say goodbye to your cash. You dont get another chance, you have to pay another full fee.

Yet in NSW you can do it much more reasonably, all for around $700 i believe which is much more acceptable.

WA will just turn into a state now where the Gov't will be more concerned about defecting cars than Policing real crime - Same as Victoria is these days.

If Victoria pulled the traffic cops of defecting cars for a BOV or a "H" pattern on a gearknob - the crime rate would drop ass out within 6 months... but then you don't have any donut money

I had to undergo this test with my VL (RB25DET Convo) a couple of months ago, if I had visited the pits 7 days earlier, the IM240 would'nt have been set in place! It sucked. Cost me $2,100 overall, which included a new CAT which they installed halfway through the testing. Kostecki is the only place who can run the tests officially at the moment, and they charge an absolute bucketload.

My advice is, get them to install a CAT (was around the $300 mark) straight off the bat! It will save you a lot of money for all the initial tests they do before they tell you it's failed (which is pretty much inevitable).

It's not impossible to pass, it's just very difficult, even for some cars straight out of the factory. Get a decent CAT installed and you should be fine.

Good luck with it everyone, don't let this hold you back from modifying :-)

sorry for the previous comments, was just a joke.... obviously

i smell bs if only 1 workshop is doing the testing, some corruption could be going on between someone in government and kosteckis as nic-a31 already suggested, do we stand around and accept these bs laws? a protest is not a criminal act... it is an option if the joy of driving our performance cars is at stake for stupid reasons like global warming which isnt even proven to be from humans

i dont even see how that huge price for the 2nd emmissions test is justified? more than double the first test, isnt it just the same test again? all i smell is bs.......

You should all protest out the front of this "Kosteckis" place for a month lol.

If the Gov't has only approved them, you'll get a nice message across as opposed to just protesting out the front of parliament so you'll not only annoy the Gov't by protesting - you'll also be getting a business to make noise to the Gov't, not for the right reason exactly but it'll give it a nice view and probably lots of news coverage

Oh this is some sh*T news...

& I just booked in to get a new turbo back exhaust fitted at hyper drive next thurday.

Somehow I'm believe all those rust buckets I see driving around with black smoke comming out from their exhaust will NEVER get send to do the test by the cops...

When I had to do the IM240 at Kostecki I was charged on their hourly rate, which was in relation to how many tests my car had to undergo. So, the more times I was tested, the more hours it took, the more it cost. I am fairly sure it isn't more expensive the "2nd" time you attempt it, it's just obviously going to cost more because of the hourly rate. My car took 15 tests to pass (as the engine got warmer, my emissions readings improved, but never quite made it; so they intervened and installed the new CAT and ran a few more tests until it passed).

Don't hold me to this, but I have been through the process and it seems as though it's charged on an hourly rate, not set prices per test!

^^^ Like he says & as I've already said on a related thread in here somewhere, I want to know ; (1.) How we corner the import lisence for the Gas Analysers that are ADR approved, (2.) Where we (us old un-employed revheads) can be retrained on some Govt., sponsored scheme to run the tests. (3.) When do we start.

Cheers GW

Orbital Engineering but I'm not sure they're open to the public or if they are it's severly cost prohibitive.

The old R&D automotive company I used to work for had an old 5-gas analyser and 3x engine dynos.. maybe I should give them a call

We're also several thousand years overdue for a swap of the poles, when that happens shit will really hit the fan.

Heh when that happens the earth's magnetic fields will swap and all of our hard disks and anything that relies on a magnetic field to work, will be completely screwed! LOL

Anyways, back on topic....i took my car over the pits just under 2 weeks ago and i didn't have to do one of these tests? And u can clearly see my car has been modified....

Not just equipment but our bodies and pretty much all of nature (flora & fauna) rely on the earths magnetic fields in some way.

He wouldnt discount them for anyone....he doesnt need to lol

Made a few phone calls today and their are alot of people unhappy about it.

There will be within 6 months, more options of places to get the test done. Several machines are in Perth at various places, its just a matter of getting it certified which is what others are doing at the moment. No doubt it will be a huge paperwork trail for the companies etc etc hence it taking time to sort through it all.

Once there is some competition for the test, the price will come down.

These tests were first bought up 2 years ago and Kostecki's were the only company to get off their arse and do something about it so i don't really blame them for making what they can out of it til others decide to get their sh** together

and whats worse is it doesn't do it straight away. so we get cooked by solar radiation for years, before it flips around. then our starter motors go the wrong way round

    • The existing factory sub feed should already have a sum of L+R and a low pass filter, so it probably isn't necessary to take another L and R feed from the HU.  If it didn't have a factory sub output, then that would be the best option though. Does your new amp not have speaker level inputs?  that would eliminate the need for the speaker - line level converter completely.
    • The query here, is how do you arrange all of your spares and other random items? And then, what do you do, if you think you're hitting that point where you won't need them any more?   So, but of background; I've had lots of different cars, and tinkered with lots of cars over the last 18 odd years. In addition, I have a habit of ending up with things, I'll now never need again. For example, for the R33, I've got a side mount intercooler, and a GTR front mount cooler, as well as random items like aftermarket cam gears, starter motors, power steering pumps, and even things as random as the really small fuse box, that sits right beside the battery.  So firstly, I've got a lot of stuff right there, that I'll never need again, as I'm not playing street/stock cars. So, I probably need to clear some items out, and at the same time, I hate Facebook Market place and dealing with people. So other than throwing this stuff out, how do you guys deal with it? Do you have a similar stash of parts hidden away taking up space?   So then the next part is, I have lots of stuff like aluminium pipe to make inlets from, lots and lots of electrical stuff too for making custom wiring looms, and so many random things. How do you guys organise all of your stuff? I've moved a lot, and lots of my stuff was just in random cardboard and plastic boxes, that were starting to fall apart! Lots of it was stacked on shelves in said boxes, and I've just gotten new shelving, and I'm re arranging the garage to fit some new (to me) large tools in. That means I'm presently opening boxes, being ruthless and ditching the trash (I think about 30 cables that would suit a TV/Desktop PC went in the bin alone!). However, now I've got parts laying in the middle of the garage floor while I work out how to store them on shelves. The shelves are all high, so if I lay all the parts out nicely on shelving, I lose heaps of space. But if I shove them all back in boxes, I'm back to square one!   So what mysterious and creative storage solutions have you come up with? That is other than making the garage bigger, and buying more shelving, and pushing this problem back another 5 to 10 years...   Oh, and lots of things I have, are for projects I want to do one day, or am slowly doing too... The 80HDs can make life hard sometimes... So more storage space probably isn't the best idea...   Let's add another random question too, how much space is being taken up in your workshop/garage from parts you bought years ago, and still haven't fitted? Example, I have a brand new Safari Snorkel for the LandCruiser, and a box of RedArc gauges.    Since November of 2016...
    • So I've been working on the car a fair bit, doing a lot of little things. Preparing some projects for this winter, as I'm taking 13 weeks off very soon for parental leave. Have my second kid on the way and he's due any week now. I'll need something to do while he's sleeping. I also usually take the car off the road in about a month and a half, until sometime around the end of March.  Still making slight adjustments to my tune, as the cold weather settles in. I've also had to start dropping boost and tire pressure as the weather gets cooler. It's getting very swirly at highway speeds. I drop to 20psi at 20C and 18psi spring pressure at 10C IAT's. I'm currently on 255 Falcon RT660's, but may look into running 275's next summer. They will fit, but barely. Might have to raise the rear a tad.  I'll start redoing my exhaust Monday, as I have the week off. I currently have an oval center muffler and cannon rear muffler. I've been told more then once from people behind me that my rear bumper is going to catch on fire one day. Seems I blow 5-10 second flames after doing a pull. No clue if that's the WMI, as I've never been able to do that before with other cars. I wanted to angle my tip down a tad so flames are pointed down and away from bumper. I also wanted to take the opportunity to reconfigure my exhaust line. I'm going to move my oval muffler to the rear with a pie cut angled tip and put in a new smaller round muffler in the center. I've rocked cannon mufflers on this car for the last few years and want to transition back the oval muffler look. I've also been looking for a stainless project to try out the new solar flux I bought. I'll post pictures on Monday, should be able to wrap that up in a day.  I'm also picking up another rear subframe this week. I wanted a second so that I could modify one with a gk tech anti squat reduction kit during the winter, and still be able to keep the car a roller so I can back it out of the garage if needed. I will also be caging it this winter. More on that later. Lastly, Speedtek still hasn't given me diddly squat. Every week for the last 4 weeks, they have been saying next week. They told me Friday to expect a shipping label that day to ship my two bad sets of ring and pinions back and nothing. There's definitely been more contact since I started destroying their company any chance I get on Facebook, but it's still just words without action.
    • Have you done a pressure test on your intake/piping? Cleaned your IACV and Cold start valve?
    • Bit of a dump of ones I saw on my trip. I also have a heap from daikoko but that’s technically not  on the street
