Just a quick question, what are these short shifters i keep seeing advertised, and do they do anything for performance??

Also i came accross a website a while ago that had a flash animation of an R34 and you could put different rims on it and lower it, change the colour etc.... anyone know what i am going on about? if so cna you post the link.

Short shifters are simply a replacement gear stick in a shorter form.

Nismo and C's make shifters that are 10-30% shorter than the factory gear stick, a shorter stick will simply give you a quicker manual gear change.

Whether or not its detramental to your gear box is up in the air? I have one and love it.

thats not actually true... generally a short shifter is a shorter stick... but its not just like cutting a few inches off your factory shifter.

The way it works is it actually makes the throw of the gear 30% shorter (in the case of a C's short shifter). The only reason they are bad for your box is becuase your shifting alot quicker and harder, its easier to crunch gears, but if your box is good and you can change with out crunching, then all is good.

skyline boxes are actually pretty good, but the short shifters make them even nicer. If you want to know what a long throw feels like on a quickish car, try driving a manual SS commondore... can have a cup of coffe in between gear changes :)
