hey guys

my old baby, a 1980 mitsubishi scorpion decided to pack up and die. so as i have a rb25det at home out of my old skyline i wanna put it into the scorpion. who would i have to see what needs to be done to get it on the road with the rb25 in there instead of the 4cyl it had

I used a mob in Braeside, as have many of my friends as they are both reasonably priced and if you know what you are doing - they are more than willing to help where possible

But ye - good luck getting a heavy donk like that into a scorpion these days - most engineers wont sign off on such things

weight of the donk compared to a bare car is about 850kg car. with the addition that id need to get a custom tank made up for will add weight, as would a bigger gea box, so im hoping the car will still puch 1250kg. standard scorpion is 1250 with 112kw i think, so to just gain an extra 70kw in motor im hoping they'd b able to sign off on it.

the car was in fast fours in 93, still in mickey mouse condition, custom paint, custom interior, so i dont want it to go to waste. my only othe option is the scorpions came out with the optioned 2.0lt turbo engines but they were unreliable. bit like a faded 32gtr engine that has high km and in need of a rebuild.

It's not so much the weight that's the issue as much as the power.

70kw on paper is a 60% increase if my maths is about right - that is where you're issue is going to be :(

The guys @ Enkelman are very good and straight down the line. I had probably a 3-4hr chat with the guys in person when i sorting my RB26 conversion and so on.

One of the points they were telling me (this was 18months ago now), was that they simply were not signing off on major increases anymore.

LS1's into Cortina's (and similar) were just not getting passed as it was not worth their livelyhood to signoff should something then go wrong later down the track due to someone trying to dodge the engineers (by doing poor conversions, cutting corners etc).

I had a full list of parts altered, weight differences and so on. Add to the fact i already had a RB25 Engineered in there the RB26 was easy... If it was RB20 to start off with they said it potentially would have been a bit of a struggle but being the same family and without any major mods to chassis/engine mounting and so on it was still possible.

You might be better off looking to a SR20 conversion and selling off the RB25? The SR20 would be much more friendly, lighter and you can still get a reasonable amount of power out of them. Just something to think about.

but ye - ring them up, make an appointment and go sit down with them - make sure you go in prepared with as much info as you can about weights/sizes etc etc as that goes a long way to showing them you are serious about it rather than some guy who's trying to just 'slap a V8 in a light car' kinda thing.
