I have a slight muffler issue with recently purchased R34GT-t , the configueration when bought went 3" dump going to a 2.5"cat and out to a 3.5" cat back with a 3.5" intermediary resonator and a 3.5 in and 4.5 out cannon, that filled with water when stationary in the rain , realy good huh ?.

I've replaced the 2.5 cat with a 3" sports cat and had bends put in the rear so that the cannon now sits up in the exhaust well and is no longer an artesian artifact.

This now gives a three inch forward section and cat and a 3.5 cat back which works very well, except for one thing, drone, whilst being legal the in cabin drone annoys me .

What brands of mufflers are out there with a 3.5' in that will dull it down a couple of octaves that won't choke the crap out of the flow ? it's more about pitch than decibels.

It does sound mighty fine when you put the wellie in though. :P

you would have to replace the cannon with a oval type muffler...... or there is varex stainless cannon type mufflers by xforce.... they have a valve that can be open/ closed via remote.... open near no restriction, closed will be quiet (legal).....

Thanks guys, I'll maybe go the Varex , bit exy though, got quoted $650 fitted, makes me wonder whether it wouldn't make more sense to get a 3" cat back and forget the 3.5" bit completely, any ideas best place for a 3" cat back thats street legal ? not fussed about it being stainless either.

if it was me, i'd look around here and other forums / ebay for a used one. i mean its an exhaust. not much can go wrong with them.

you can pick up used stainless ones for next to nothing.

another option for brand new is the x-force stainless 3 inch. fits well, sounds nice, no drone, good flow, and cheap! ive got one, turbo back. very happy with it.

if you want to spend more, then go hks, etc, etc. check out deals from the forum traders on here.

Thanks guys , if I come across a nice 3" cat back (thats not angle out) second handy or new thats the way I'll go otherwise I'll go the Varex.

All the newby cat backs I have found so far have an angle out muffler which I'm not keen on personaly.

If anyone knows of a 3" cat back system thats not angle out please post I'm getting a bit googled out trying to find one.

forget the Varex. theyre only useful to hide how loud and annoying your exhaust is when cops are around.

for day to day, you want a good flowing 3 inch, with decent mufflers, that sounds good all the time.

a mid muffler is key to this.

:P Cool, you wouldn't be able to point me to a manufacturer that makes just such a number thats not an angle out by any chance , like I wrote before I don't like the angle out jobby--just me I guess , everyone else seems to favour em.

i think most cannon systems will have a slight angle. i'm sure there are options out there. i just havent looked very hard lol.

you may need to find one with an oval muffler on the end, or get one modified/made. like > THIS <

Mate the one pictured in the > THIS < is perfect , cost made up cat back only by Best Mufflers $700 fitted, drive it away. custom only , no off the shelf.

Cost quoted for a similar set up cat back only by two different local muffler guys , around, ah hem, $1100

Chris at Best Mufflers was good enough to give me a parts costing , retail inc GST but not frieght, just in case I wanted to buy the bits and then hawk em round muffler shops to see if someone would do the make up for me at a reasonable price.

It goes like this:-

3x3" mandrel bends (2x90* 1x30*) @ $20ea--------------------------------------------------$ 60.00

1x Berkley 3" resonator (14"x4") Pt No BSO439-----------------------------------------------$ 85.00

1x XForce oval rear muffler twin out part No MP01-76----------------------------------------$195.00

3x3" flanges Pt Nos FT276 @ $10.00ea----------------------------------------------------------$ 30.00

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------TOTAL---$370.00

Of course add on a few feet of pipe and the labour (say 3 hours) and there's your $700.

Now of course the question arises now that I have the specs, "Which Bank" woops, I meant Muffler shop.

Any ideas anyone Gold coast or close by ? :P
