Anyone know if HID bulbs is hotter than normal H1 bulb? Is this safe for skyline's plastic headlight cover, i.e. not gonna make it turn yellow or melt down?

BMW uses HID as factory standard.... if non factory upgrade is told illegal, I'm sure you can do engineer certificate on them...

OK I'll clear a few bits up. Yes they are illigal IF your car doesn't have a lense cleaning system eg. BMW, Merc etc. Thats why u see these cars with them on. My 34 is dues on the 6th and I have to remove the HID lights from it because they don't comply to ADR standards - no washing etc. The reason for the washing is due to the fact that they are such a bright light. If you get water and muck on the lense they say it's possible to refract and blind oncoming driver (whatever). If you really wanted to spend the money I'm sure you could get them engineered but c'mon really, how many ppl can?

hang on a minute, something struck my mind....

is another compulsory thing for HID is self-levelling system in the headlight? this is to prevent your headlight blinding oncoming drivers when you are, say going uphill, etc... its not only about whether the lens is dirty or not...?

Yes this is also true - they need to be self levelling, most of the 34 kits come with an in-cabin switch for manual level adjustment but this is obviously not goo enough for the ADR's...

There is another company here in Oz called xenall who also do hid kits for most cars ;)

hey,

will the 4500K HID light be as bluey bright as the Bimmer ones? Or will they be more whiteish? Are the bluey ones starting to get into the 8000k range?

cos based on the Taka Kaira prices, a pair of say 6000K HIDs would cost us around AUD 521. Which is heaps more affordable than AUD 1000+

  • 1 month later...

Errr... Guys, you can't just buy the HID bulbs and plug them in you know? So if you went and bought those two HID bulbs for $300, you would have just flushed $300 down the toilet. Instead, consider donating $300 to the forums :P

(See this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...read.php?t=4845)

But yeah, you need a ballast unit, and a new wiring loom, to connect the ballast to power, and also from the ballast to the new bulb.

This is why they sell kits. You can't just buy the bulbs and plug them in.

So HID "kits" are basically selling you a few bits of wire, some basic inverters and some expensive globes.

For $1000???

Seems like a joke. You can build everything you need except the globes yourself if you are handy with a soldering iron. There's probably about $6 in parts in your average ballast/inverter.

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
