are you talking about street or race?

if street then just change whenever you want.

if race....

this works in 2 ways. the first is that yes, once you rev past the max power you will be increasing revs but as the revs are getting higher the power is dropping. that is bad. however on the upside, the longer you rev out the higher in the rpm will be when you change into the next gear, which is good. for the lower gears you could rev out close to redline before changing for optimum performance, but in the higher gears where you spend a longer time at high rpm before having to change you would change a bit earlier. but it all comes down to what rpm you are making max power. if you are making max power at 5000rpm then by 7000rpm you could be making less power than at the rpm you will be at when you change gears.
