it "seems" darker than OEM in those pics? i have my old set of lights lying around the garage (Qest are a full light swap like what you're thinking) so if you want to dry and get the real Nismo look, you can have a play with my prev set perhaps.

That's what i noticed as well with the Qest ones on the black backing, you can see the LED's much clearer when they're not on. From the cars i've seen with Nismo ones, this isn't really the case, so they must use a more natural backing colour. Red perhaps, but maybe even a grey or cardboard colour?

I just purchased a 2nd set of lights to either be a test set or for an exchange basis for anyone that wants to do it that way..

I will take a side by side photo to see for any difference in colour and if so I will look into different coloured perspex or mounting the led board further back into the recess of the housings to hide the visibility through the lens. Appreciate the comments too its given me something to look forward to, if you want to do something with your old lights shoot me a PM to discuss it.

  • 6 months later...

Never ended up getting my hands on a set of them :( so the centre brake light is still the only option I have, unless you go from drop-in bulbs...they're good as they light up quick and match the centre light LED speed, they're better RED also over stock.

    • Agreed it actively wants to kill you which I love driving fast cars slow is my stick
    • Awesome! I was thinking S14 since they are longer. I'll give those a shot. Thanks for the input!
    • Far out, that thing looks like some loose fun!  Nothing beats the rawness of a filthy old Nissan with zero aids to keep the wheels pointing in the right direction like modern "fast" cars!
    • If there is no ridge at the inner edge of the battery tray (ie the battery tray is flat until it rolls off the edge into the open space of the bay), then no, it won't matter if it overhangs. If the battery would be propped up by any ridge, then that wouldn't be ideal. The bottom of the battery case would not be sharing the load. It would be concentrated on one end edge and a line across the bottom where it contacts the ridge. And possibly it wouldn't fit under the locking clamp either. I only upsized my battery to the max because: I sometime have to leave my car undriven for weeks at a time while I am away for work. On the previous battery (replaced a couple of months ago) I had to leave it undriven for months at a time!! I sometimes abuse the battery by running the stereo up loud for many hours while I wash and polish it. This is how I realised that the previous battery was on its last legs, because it got to the point where it was too weak to start after a couple of such. It was 7 years old though, so, fair play. Supercheap had a good special so the X was only ~$250 instead of ~$320, which seemed sufficiently less painful. I had already been using NS70 for the previous 2 batteries for most of the same reasons as above. The X is just the final boss level. I was contemplating going LiFePO4. But it's like $900 to do that properly, and while you save >10 kg of weight, you can likely only expect a couple of years longer life. So meh. Maybe when the price comes down further. Although, in ~7 years when I have to replace this one, I might not be allowed to drive such an anti-social vehicle anyway.
    • If I get a larger battery and it hangs off the edge of the frame rail, would this be an issue? With FMIC a lot of people downgrade their battery size due to less room for shit, was wondering if it would affect anything but it would still be tight via the clamp.
