Speedometer Problem

I took out my white speedometer kit, in my 94 R33 NA, and after putting it all back together the speedometer doesn't show up the right speed. IT shows up roughly half the speed i'm doing. So when i'm doing 80 it shows roughly 40. The car is running fine, and i don't have a problem with the taco. Any ideas?

did you change the whole cluster out or just the dials out of the cluster?

Oh... i thought i put a reply here. I only took the dials out of the cluster.

My mate took the cluster out of his Toyota and removed the plastic front, put it back in then followed me at 60 according to my speedo. He held the speed, pushed the needle back on at 60 and replaced the plastic front. Been correct ever since.

Haha see the reason i asked was because i just had my car converted from auto to manual and the automatic cluster reads only half the speed. pretty much exact same problem but different.

I have heard that there is a way to re-calibrate it from the back of the cluster but I'm unsure on how this is done, should probably search it up im sure its been covered at some point. One thing you can try is unplugging the cluster, starting the car, then plugging it back in while its running. This seemed to do the trick with my old tx3 turbo, but i cant guarantee anything.

ok. I FIXED IT! Woo. All i did was push the needle past 180 on the dial and when it got to the end kept pushing a little more. I tested it and made sure that it reved out at 60km/h in 1st. and 100 in 2nd. worked out well.

ha ha ha great way 2 fix it instead of spending $350 to put in a ratio box. What a rip off just to connect 4 wires

there is a tutorial on adjusting the cluster on this forum somewhere. it is done by soldering up jumpers on the back of the speedo.

also if you converted the car from auto to manual and didn't change the diff then it will read out as well because the auto diff ratio is different and the speedo reads from the gearbox.

Yeah i had the cluster changed to manual and yes its still running auto diff, i prefer the higher gearing to manual one. Its only out by 3km/h at 60, and 5km/h at 100 (reads lower). Ive checked it out with a couple different gps units. With 18's on it reads perfect again so no problems there for me
