hi all, i picked up a turbo that is in very good condition with braided oil lines, has only been used for 500kms and a t3/to4e.

i dont want to pop this in if its going to waste my time, everything looks fine, no real badging , but fins look good from what i can see..

Is ther any turbo expert or place i can bring this to to have a look at?. or would the cost be a little to much?

thanx if someone can help me..

The turbo doe have a blue serial plate with these details:

TURBOCHARGER

Model: wt3/t4

serial no. MZ0701244 ANY ONE FIMILAR WITH THESE NUMBERS?.. thanx

yep, places like GCG etc can inspect the turbo or even test the turbo for you. best to call around and ask for prices, it will vary alot from a basic inspection (ie test end float and axial play) to full testing, disassembly, balancing etc.

as long as the compressor wheel has minimal shaft play id say it should be fine. It should all come down to the build quality of the turbo. If its an ebay turbo then use at your own risk. Where did you get the turbo from?

hi, thanx for the replies.i got it for 300 of a macnic friend of mine, i wasent after huge numbers, just 12psi to 1 bar, but, dont really want to pop this in if it may cause issues.. yeah, the ebay ones ive heard bad things about, then some good, thats why i wanted to see what i could do with this... i can take some pix if it helps?.. i would love to know if its off ebay, it looks good, but, hard to tell whats inside.. any way i can check with a serial at all?... thanx

The full inspection is basically a rebuild anyhow mate, and that will be more than what you paid for the turbo because no place like GCG is going to chuck a jippo centre back in there. It'll be a full rebuild kit ~$500 give/take depending on whatever factors come up.

You just check the wheel play... any old donkey can do that but really doesn't tell you a thing.

In all honesty mate its going to be a unresponsive, laggy turbo that will come on with a rush and make it feel fast, but realistically it'll be slow.

Nothing that costs $300 is good.

And then being it is 110% a good ole ebay special turbo... and it was even cheaper than usual... gotta ask yourself on question.

Why did your mechanic 'friend' sell it so cheap?

I bet it looks good, no doubt, polished cover and all no doubt? :P

I dont mean to bear bad news - i just dont think its a good idea to waste time with it

hey, thats so much guys and thats R31.. sounds about right... hey, mine isent polished tho... thabx so muxch for clearing up the rebuild / test issue.. sounds like if im going to do something, it would be cheaper to rebuild my turbo it seems like..

think i will listen to experience and do a rebuild or wait and save cash for a turbo... i checked around ebay and couldent find the same turbo with a blue serial plate, i did get this 1.5 years ago of my macnic for 300.. he doesent know how to use ebay.. but who knows... hey, even the best of the cheapest brands, do they normaly have more info on the houseing?, not just a serial and model?... thanx

for the sake of $50 or $100 send it to the place 9krpm mentioned. he will be able to basic checks, check it for end float and axial play, check the wheels for you AND most likely can give you an opinion as to whether or not he thinks it will perform well on your RB25 engine.

nice,, thanks so much guys,, i found that me turbo the other day in the yellow pages, so he is what im after... and 50 -100, thanx for the guessed amount, that seems check enough.... yet again, another question answered in SAU.. thanx
