Sorry i think you missed what i said...

i was not saying it is hard and i got one myself... i was just saying that in other country's they have realised the attitude you have said... too hard and people cant be bothered... so they made a change to allow anyone to go to a track whenever they feel like without a CAMS, i was saying that yes there are avenues and i agree with them but we need to remember that not everyone want to be part of a group or forum but still like to get out once and a while and they cannot... some avenues are great for some but not others...

I agree with Brad it is only an hour but what happens if you live in a small counrty town and visit the big sticks and just want a race around?? there is no option unless you plan weeks ahead of time make sure there is a track event and then plan your holiday around it... i agree that is an extreme case but so are a lot of these accidents....

Well the answer to both those points is same.

I live in the country. Unlike the prevailing attitude of just about everyone who lives in Perth/other random capital city I long ago made the realisation that doing stuff takes time, effort & involves some degree of sacrifice. So yeah it is a 3 hour drive to go to Wanneroo, just like it is 2 & a bit hours to go & watch the cricket, the rugby or to attend a decent concert. You will find that most people who live in the sticks understand that & get on with life anyway. It is a city based mentality that requires everything to be presented on a plate.

Collie is only 30min drive and 3hrs to wannaroo as djr81 mentioned and kwinana drags 1hr drive .. Most events are planned well in advance so you have plenty of time to arrange .

So i understand... can i drive to collie right now pay $15 and drive around for the hour? if the answer is yes then i will get back in my box and accept i am wrong...

however if the answer is no then my point is made... please read how i wrote it i am not making an arguement i am stating where some people not on the forums are coming from it is not my opinion it is fact.

i know there is events to participate in... i was saying that other country's allow you to go any time no event required or special lisence.

i was saying that other country's allow you to go any time no event required or special lisence.

The simple fact is this country doesn't, and I can't see it is likely too either.

So having dealt with that fact, let's move on, and get down to what the real options are:

1. Go to a legal motorsport venue

or

2. Risk you life and others on the road.

I'll vote for 1 thanks :P

$15 is just enough to get you a drink , burger n chips at those tracks .. So no you wont get track time for $15

Bubba, Whilst I totally agree that our best wishes are with the victims and there families, I do see this as a good reminder to everyone the consequneces of driving fast cars (whether they were speeding or not), and trying to encourage more people to particitpate in safe driving, and learning how to better handle there cars. I'm sure the families of those involved would want others to reflect on what has happened.

i totally agree with what your saying, the only problem is its not just 'fast cars' i found out 1st hand on the w/e. when a stupid bitch speeding down orrong rd ran red light hit me and yes she blew over the limit but the she only going to see the consequences now that she has to pay for my repairs coz her insurance doesnt cover her coz she was charged with dd. I think Perth has some really bad drivers and its not just people driving hpv that need to participate in safe driving etc etc she was driving a frigin lancer.

I agree that it's not just HPV owners that contribute to the dangers on the road, but we can actively encourage HPV owners to get into motorsport etc, then I feel we're doing our part to help make things better. I'd hope no one here would be silly enough to drink and drive.

BTW, great news to hear that both driver and passenger are doing ok

It was a relief to hear that both driver and passenger are doing ok. No matter who was right and who was wrong, they are humans, they have families and friends, and I wish them full recovery. Life is priceless.

One more thing that I would like to ask before I go back to my box. It would be nice if someone with knowledge and first hand experience wrote a small post describing what facilities are available, their conditions, what needs to be done to access them, prices, etc. It can be done once and for all, instead of going over and over it in many topics.

I agree with Brad and Paul - it may take only 1-2 hours of your time if you go online and do your own research, but I can also see that some members aren't even aware of what facilities are available and what is involved in getting access to those facilities.

That tread can be made "sticky" and it will be, from my point of view, valuable addition to WA section of SAU forum.

Just my 2 cents.

And, this is a sensational idea. I will most definately do this for everyone.

I will have it done in the next few days! Thank you for your suggestion.

It has been asked and answered any number of times.

The reality is that most people who say they want to participate don't.

They either have unrealistic expectations (eg it should cost next to nothing and be just round the corner) or are put off by it being competitive or by it being a controlled environment or any number of other reasons.

Which is fine. But it is not like there are any secrets about where to go or who to talk to.

Gents,

Thread Cleaned.

Keep on topic.

No jokes, no off topic random posts.

That took 5 minutes & was off the top of my head. There are numerous car clubs who want members & organise events too.

The unfortunate reality is very few people can ever be bothered turning up to have a look see, let alone enter, let alone do it properly.

My argument is this (& does not in any way relate to the people unfortunate enough to be involved in the incident mentioned in this thread):

If all you know about someone is that they are happy to disregard road rules why would you want them on a race track anywhere near you or your car? Clearly you don't. So why do people argue that hoons need facilities & that the hard working folk who manage/run them ought to provide their services to fkwits. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but there it is.

On the other hand you will find anyone involved in motorport will be more than happy to help & be genuinely interested if you want to do something properly. Me included.

It, I am sure, was (and is) the case. However, as I said and as you said, people may not be even aware or may have unrealistic expectation. SO I totally agree with Brad - it wont hurt to get that info summarized and EASILY accessible to everyone here, even people like myself - just click on the link, all info is there, all detail are there, just read, digest the info and decide what to do next. And if in a long run that post put few people in a right direction and help prevent at least one crash - it will be time well spent.

Yes I realize - it is not a silver bullet, it is not an answer to all our questions, but it might help people to better use facilities that we've already got here in Perth.

By the way - thank you, Brad, for doing that post.

Djr, you have some good points, but it wont hurt to have the info publicly and easily available for those who have just entered the scene or whatever.

Maybe have list on SAUWA for the newbies , sort of like the workshop thread

Because you can't just click a link.

Roughly in order you need to

Select an event.

Get a membership to a club.

Get a licence (be it for the day or for the year).

Prepare your car for scrutineering with typical requirements over normal roadworthiness being:

Tagged fire extinguisher.

Blue triangle

Valve caps on the tyres.

Tow hooks.

Prepare yourself

Long sleeves in cotton.

Helmet.

Prepare your car for the track typically needing things such as:

New and or proper brake fluid.

Decent brake pads.

Good rotors.

Cooling system up to scratch.

Engine in good nick.

Good suspension.

And all that is before you get to the point of thinking about going quickly.

Which is somewhat more than just clicking on a link. Most people look at that & think it is too hard. Which it isn't really.

A selection of what events are on soon:

I agree that getting into motorsport requires more than a little bit of effort, it like any good sport requires a genuine interest, and you need to be prepared to spend a few $$$ to get in there an do it.

Obviously there are a number of different level which you can compete in, and so it can be as simple as bring long sleeves and a helmet, all the way through to category racing.

I still think it would be a good idea to have the sticky thread which contains facilities, events, and requirements to enter, so we make it as easy as possible for people to get involved in motorsport, but at the end of the day it does boil down to individuals making a choice.

In the upcoming SAUWA General Meeting, we'll be proposing that for members to continue annual membership, that they'll be required to complete a driver training course (or compete in a motorsport event). We hope that this will in some way improve the overall standard of driver skills, and open up more opportunities for people to get into motorsport.

    • Ok glad you clarified on the frenchy’s options , I was worried about if my oem hoses would fit the new compressor or not if I just bought the bracket/compressor kit ,  didn’t realize they also sold a larger full conversion kit. Hmm may just go oem in that case then to make it easy only because I plan to sell this car to upgrade to a 32 GTR or 34 GTT.
    • Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4
    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
