well we've finally sorted out that the father in laws gtr is No.5 of the original 100 delivered to australia.

I've read that there is a yellow restrictor tab in the control lines that can be removed for more power. He hasn't done this himself and it was delivered new to him. He's not sure whether nissan oz may have done it. Can anyone point out where this tab is supposed to be if it's still in place please?

Cheers

Michael

I guess there is one way to tell. If it does 0-100 in 4.7 seconds and a 12.8 quarter then the tab has been removed.

Love a picture. Anyone from nissan australia?

I have an aussie GTR and the restrictor doesnt seem to be in place. It runs 12psi. Now I dont really know if the Aus versions were delivered with or without the restrictor.

Here is an engine bay of an AUS Delivered R32 GTR.

The owner is on SAU and a thread was made as the owner is selling it... From memory...

The amount of effort the owner has done to store and keep the car in a ridiculously Mint... And I mean Mint condition, is excellent!

You could eat sushi off the rocker cover LOL!

The Yellow Boost Restrictor Tab is where I have circled in Red. (There should be a Yellow marking on the hose but over time it's worn off).

Supposedly you unplug the hose and squeeze out the restrictor and plug the hose back from where you pulled it from, in result having a safe factory boost increase...

(BTW I have NOT done it myself). I can still feel my Restrictor in place.

Thanks so much.

tab was in. was.

father in law is a mucho happy man. he said it felt like he'd been driving with the choke on. the car is much smoother and more responsive now.

He'll be wanting new turbo's or something next.

Then again, that might not be for a decade going by his current trend.

Thanks so much.

No worries!

So how much is the car boosting now?

Stock boost is +0.7 Bar... What is it now?

I'll find out about boost. Exhaust was replaced 12 months ago. His mate owns a muffler shop and imported an r32. He wanted to copy the father in laws system in return for a free 3" system. Turns out the 2 vehicles were very different underneath.

New turbo's. Can't see it. Car still gets serviced by the same nissan dealer that sold it to him and is bog stock except for new exhaust. The other car is a 2005 A6 3.0L tdi twin turbo - more the daily drive. 165kw and 450nm which I'm trying to talk them into chipping - 200kw and 550nm with better fuel economy.

He's a big lad and after trading the HK gts for a gtho III for a walkinshaw he grabbed the skyline. couldn't fit in a ferrari and he'd done his research and wanted the gtr. At 68 and after driving it for near 20 years he still loves it.

Should have kept quiet and may have been an even match in the forester. not now.

Thanks again.

Dont let him modify the Aussie GTR, they will be worth a fortune in the future.

True that, I think ppl will appreciate it more as it being unmodified, maybe with the exception of putting on a nice high flow street exhaust would still be fine.

    • Hey @Butters, did you end up getting this clutch in ? I have just ordered to a uniclutch track to go in my getrag 6 speed that’s in my BNR 32
    • I know you don't want to hear this comment, but I can't not say it.  I just can't see 200kw being worth the time and effort. Its like guys with NA cars, putting in headers/exhaust/tune for a massive 20% jump in power. Great, the slow car is still slow and you're down $10,000.  My vote is leave it NA or price in a gearbox upgrade and shoot for at least 300KW, preferably 350KW+.  Now you have a NC that will try to kill you from time to time and will be exciting to drive
    • Ah yep. The main message I want to pass on is, try not to get scared of ghosts when thinking about knock/knock detection.  What I mean is, healthy engines make noise. Knock is also noise. Your knock sensor and ECU combo are trying to determine bad noise from good noise based on how loud the noise is. The factory knock sensors and ECU are not good at doing this.  Modern ECU's are pretty decent at it, however I'd still say that you would want to verify that if your ECU says it's knock, that you actually listen to it and confirm that it is correct.  Are you familiar with the plex knock monitor?  https://www.plex-tuning.com/products/plex-knock-monitor-v3/ I expect you're the type of person that would be very keen to play with something like this. It is great knock detection and you can pop some headphones on and listen to what's going on.  Knock that you've deliberately induced in low load low RPM areas is not really putting anything at risk and is a great tuning/learning/verification tool.  I just thought this was worth mentioning based on the way you were talking about setting up a base map and the Haltech base map settings. There are better ways to spend your time then chasing ghosts and worrying about detonation in scenarios that it is crazy unlikely to encounter it.  I was also wondering, what ECU are you planning to get? Will it be long til you pick it up?
    • This came quicker than I thought. It ain't even 2025 yet.
    • I somehow quoted my post instead of editing it. I regret nothing.
