ok so seeing as my previous thread on this topic has disappeared

i'll continue on in a new one

i'm a little bit worried about snapping studs as one would be with this kind of job, even to the point of considering buying/borrowing a torque wrench so i don't snap any when i do them up

not so worried about getting them off as the head was taken off only a couple of years ago so hopefully they won't be too bad

my question, would it be worth the torque wrench idea and if so i don't suppose anyknow knows the amount of torque required for the nuts or where i could find that figure out

thanks.

if u have a exhaust leak there is a good chance there is one snapped the already

some times they will snap when u r removing them

some times they wont untill u tension them

depends on how much of a hard life (heat) the eng has had imo

and mabe some luck

but get your self a good left hand drill set and easy outs

good luck

exhaust studs are fun, ive none a few where they havent broken, and just as many that have broken, spray inox, wd40 on the treads before trying to remove them.

inspect the studs before refitting the manifold. i always use a thread chaser to clean the treads before refitting. use copper grease on threads and dont over tighten.

if there is going to be one that will snap it always seems to be that last one, lol.

yeah sometimes they break, other times they don't. when i put extractors on my pulsar none broke, and when i pulled them off again to fix something a few months back (had been on there for about 4 years) none broke either. however on my 33 i had 2 break just while driving, and another 2 broke getting the manifold off. similar thing happened with a mates 33 when upgrading the turbo. 1 stud broke just putting the wrench on.

I just put the 32 into the shed to do this job + a few others as well I bought a cometic exhaust gasket from repco for around $80 and new studs n bolts for around $40. Attempting to do this job over the next week or so Its supposed to be a 4 hour job for someone who hasnt done it yet (me haha) good luck will keep yas posted

say i do break a stud,

getting new studs, just the champion packs of them from autobarn etc would do ?

Get them from Nissan, it's cheaper.

4hrs is generous.

They are ok, i can supply you with gaskets and studs, let me know and i will get you a price, its around a 3 hour job.

Lol. 3hrs until you break one. Then add at least half hour per stud.
