Charles89
Just want to know if anyone knows a place in SE melb that does pretty cheap yet decent manual conversions? And does anyone know for sure how much a conversion will cost? Include parts and labour? Also, has anyone dealt with Advanced Jap Auto Imports before? They quoted me $350 for the conversion labour, which sounds too cheap to be true for me Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/281491-r34-manual-conversion-in-melb/ Share on other sites

Yea, 350 sounds so dodgy lol, but a couple of other workshops has quoted me about $1000 for labour. I tried calling Ray today but he wasn't in, so I'll try again on monday Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/281491-r34-manual-conversion-in-melb/#findComment-4744437 Share on other sites

Phatboy
$350 is insanely cheap. Maybe they were thinking parts only or something? As someone said, $1000 sounds more in the ballpark. If it's too expensive, may be cheaper to just sell your car and get a manual one lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/281491-r34-manual-conversion-in-melb/#findComment-4745428 Share on other sites

If it's too expensive, may be cheaper to just sell your car and get a manual one lol Well yea.... The only reason why I'm considering about it, is that I found a awesomely straight & clean auto R34 GTT (66,000km) for $14,000. So if I buy it then convert it to manual, it will still be cheaper than a manual R34 with low k's. But after having a hard think about it, I don't think its worth all the trouble and headaches, so now I'm thinking to import one. What do you guys think? RBLUV
i think theres some cheap manual R34 GT-T's so buy one of them, one recently sold for as low as 13k, it was stock but still prices are dropping Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/281491-r34-manual-conversion-in-melb/#findComment-4745810 Share on other sites
john-e boi
i recently done a manual conversion thanks to O.H Performance. they're located westside. completed within a week. parts came off a low km's r34 half cut that they supplied, new excedy 5 puck brass button clutch and labour came to the $4000 mark. got quotes elsewhere ranging from $5000-$6500 parts+labour. very happy with the work the boys did, have had no problems and they were straight out honest. You sure it wasn't a N/A? lol The cheapest 34 GTT I saw was about 17k with like 120,000km+ on the clock i recently done a manual conversion thanks to O.H Performance. they're located westside. completed within a week. parts came off a low km's r34 half cut that they supplied, new excedy 5 puck brass button clutch and labour came to the $4000 mark. got quotes elsewhere ranging from $5000-$6500 parts+labour. very happy with the work the boys did, have had no problems and they were straight out honest. That's pretty good, I got quoted $3500 for the whole conversion using R33 parts. How did your conversion go? Did you have to re-tune it? Was there anymore money spent after the $4000 you spent on the conversion? john-e boi
nope nothing else, all the interior plastics were supplied, even gearknob. of course cluster and steering wheel are still auto items. conversion is awesome, gearbox was in good nick no crunching gears or anything, clutch was gone though so replaced with a 5puck brass button excedy clutch. no tuning necessary, the boys dealt with all the electricals. Sounds alright, but I still think paying 18k for a manual GTT is better of paying 14+4k for a manual converted GTT. What would you do if you were me? There isn't much difference in labour between doing a clutch and a manual conversion. You still have to drop the box and refit and refit the clutch, you're just refitting a different box. The difference is mainly fitting the pedal box, master cylinder and clutch line. Original manual GTT. No contest. Not only will you be getting a car that was designed from the factory to be manual, you should be able to get a better car in other respects as well for the 4k premium. john-e boi
honestly, rather have bought a manual r34 than to go through it. its just i put in a too much into the car to start all over. best bet to buy a manual r34. be sure to check it though. searching for an r34 ages ago myself, most were auto thats been converted to manual anyways (either once landed here or been done in japan) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/281491-r34-manual-conversion-in-melb/#findComment-4747041 Share on other sites

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking of doing, just wait it out and not rush it, until I can find a manual one that I like honestly, rather have bought a manual r34 than to go through it. its just i put in a too much into the car to start all over. best bet to buy a manual r34. be sure to check it though. searching for an r34 ages ago myself, most were auto thats been converted to manual anyways (either once landed here or been done in japan) How would I actually check if it's been converted or not? Like what if they used ALL R34 manual parts for conversion? Including dash and all? john-e boi
its pretty hard to, but sometime you might be able to spot transmission lines, rough cut hole for pedal box, auto radiator main things i looked for anyways Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/281491-r34-manual-conversion-in-melb/#findComment-4747190 Share on other sites
