Picked Out Full Sound System, Just Need Your Opinions :)

Recommended Posts

Ok as the title says, I just need some help and advice on the sound system i am deciding to install in my car.

Head Deck:

Pioneer CD Tuner DEH P6050UB or

Pioneer CD Tuner DEH P7150UB

Sub + Amp (Combination):

Pioneer Car Subwoofer TSW307D4 (4 ohms) or D2 (2 ohms)? What is the difference? I plan to run only ONE sub if that helps.

Pioneer Car Amp Mono GM-D7400M or Pioneer Car Amp 2-ch GM-5300T <--- suggested on pioneer website with that sub, so got me confused ;)

Speakers + Amp (Combination):

Pioneer TS-D1720C 6.5" 260W Splits x 2 (Front + Rear)

Amp: Question is can i run another 2 channel amp for these speakers? or i need a 4 channel?

Any Help Will be much appreciated.

My aim for the sound system is i just want to be able to listen to nice clean music in my daily 34 GT-T .

Oh and if there is anyone that can install audio and is willing to help, give me a buzz as i will need help on installation and will pay :D

Thanks

okay.... will be alright.

1. dont use splits in the rear, what a dumb idea, total waste of money. use a set of tsa1873s in the rear. 80% of listening is your front. you dont go to a concert and turn away from the stage.

2. get a TSW307D2 AND

3. ditch the idea of pioneer amplifiers, they've been shit for years, unless you pay top dollar for an ice power one, i wouldnt waste your coin. instead try getting either a Kenwood KAC-8404, Rockford P-4004, or an Alpine MRP-F600. they will actually make power, unlike the pioneer one, which dont make power unless struck by lightning. you can bridge the two rear channels to drive the sub, and use the fronts 2 channels to run the splits in the front, while running your rears off the h/u.

also, IMO the recent pioneer price rises (ie over $100 rise on their basic splits, and from $799 to a whopping $999 on their PRS series splits) dont reflect the quality of the product, pioneer must be really hurting with the collapse of strathfield, and the fact that kenwood has a 8% larger market share (according to recent market surveys) when it's usually the other way around. they're just trying to make a quick buck, making you pay more (making dealers pay more too) for a product that isnt any better. the TSW307 is also a really poor sounding subwoofer, compared to their old TSW306C, they're inferior and sound terrible. you can do much better for the same price.

dont get me wrong, pioneer gear is fine, i love the prs series, unfortunately not for $999, they just dont sound anywhere near as good as Focal 165KR2's ($899).

Thanks for the help,

So your saying get a 4 channel amp ? and i dont' need a mono?

And what sub would you recommend me get instead then?

The Pioneer sub only cost $170

I've currently got a Pioneer deck with Alpine speakers/amp/sub setup.

Here's a list of what they are

Deck: Pioneer DEH-P800BT

Fronts: Alpine SPR-17S Type-R 6-1/2" Component 2-Way Speaker

Rears: Alpine SPR-17C Type-R 6-1/2" Coaxial 2-Way Speaker

Amp: Alpine MRP-M500

Sub: Alpine SWR-1242D Type-R 12"

I would suggest you go high quality front speakers, as you want clear music right? Maybe get a 10" sub depending how much doof doof you want hehe..

Rear's aren't a problem like Shiraz said, don't get splits for the rear... complete waste as you listen to the front mainly!

There's a few good mono amps around, you can get a 4channel and bridge it... but that's kind of a waste in any case... I just got that amp cause it was kinda shoved in my face at the time (ended up having to swap the sub cause they gave me the wrong sub...)

Shop around a bit and ask if any friends work at like JB hifi or something, can get you some good bargains :) i know i saved hundreds!!!!

Hell if you wanted to, just get a good deck, and really really good fronts (get meh rear's) and just tune it correctly, can get you enough bass/good quality sound :) did for me for ages! haha

im not sure where is this pioneer recent price rise and he wasn't taking about 999 dollar spits but splits that are $300 at most shops

so those splits Kevin actually asked about and gave us part numbers will be very good, i also own the sub you want and its great pumps nice :)

as for pioneer amps, kenwood, alpine they do alright but there's better out there

what should really be asked is what your budget is and go form there :)

splits in rear aren't necessary unless you have people at back all time but they can be faded out anyhow

most times you wont use anything in abck and spend that money upfront

some nice 6 in 2 ways in the back of a skyline are excellent. Lets not forget the shape of a lines window the sound literally bounces off it and heads straight to the front. I found my rear speakers in my old 33 did a shitload of work and made much better sound than my stupid shaped commodore that needs 6 speakers to sound as good

*Cough Focal FTW*

okay, i realise this, but my point was that the splits were 220 rrp three months ago, now they're 319rrp... just a price rise they havent made the speaker any better... $349 gets you alpine SPR-17S type R splits, much better speaker for $30 more. and i also highly doubt there's a better amplifier for the same price than an alpine or a kenwood. depending which model you're talking about.

the sub is not a bad one, im just suggesting in my professional opinion, you can do much better for the price, but if you already have it, just make sure you power it properly.. but if you were going to get a different one, i'd either see if you can buy a Kenwood Kfc-w3514dvc it's a deleted model, but a few shops may still have them. power it off a kenwood kac-8104d mono amp, run your gear off your deck. up to you however you want to do it.

take a step back and think before leaping

good 6.5 splits in the front, any brand is a huge improvement, some obviously cost lots more

decent 6.5 coax in the rear to match the fronts if possible, but the rear is optional ?

can be run off the deck power or amp but will disort if you like it loud on deck power ?

a sub , doesnt need to be huge , more depends on the enclosure and how the sound enters the car ?

on GTT you can remove the jack and move it to the spare tire well to free up a nice size area for a 10-12 in stealthy installed fiberglass box completely hidden , no loss of boot space either..

and amps can be placed in the drivers side, same area if space permits depending on the amp

remember the floor is vented near the bottom , so make sure the amp isnt too close to get wet ? and dont screw thru the side of the car, yes I have seen it done...lol

the sub can be run off a 1, 2 channel, 4, or even 5/6 channel amp... depends on what you want, how loud, etc, etc

find a good installer ????

do you like it loud ?

can you afford a custom install or just a generic box ?

do you want it for shows ?

what type of music ? some brands are better suited for rock, hip hop, classical ?

pioneer is a good brand and like most these days, made in china or asia.....not japan anymore. doesnt make it bad equipment ? so dont stress over that

will you use sound deadener ?

and buy a alarm first if you havent got one?

some amps pull lots of current, which will cause extreme loads on alternators/batteries so be warned in advance, you may need to upgrade your battery if its still the old crappy jap one ?

speakers and deck ....pioneer are decent, but there are a lot better amps on the market, dont overlook JAYCAR they produce some decent ones for cheap but you need to decide on what you want more by the questions above to do it right the first time

dont cut your rear deck , its defectable if they get picky , (structual part )

Is it just me or does under 200 for a sub just seem really cheap? lol

$2000 is a pretty generous budget for a system these days...

install it yourself and spend the $400 on a better amp. It's not that hard man, just takes a couple of hours to run all the wires thru and your new deck should have the instructions to hook it all up.

+ get a custom box made for your sub. Cant recommend it enough. My Alpine Type R sounded rubbish when i first put it in. Got a box made and a quick play around with the Amp and it was much better.

Decided will use coax in back :) good choice, they will be fine

can be run off the deck power or amp but will disort if you like it loud on deck power ? Would prefer a mono for sub mono amp is fine for sub, just make sure the ohm load can be run without frying it. 2ohm DVC sub run in parallel =1ohm on the 1ch amp, 2- 4ohm coils in parallel = 2 ohms on a 1 channel amp. when you run the amp on its lowest ohm load the power doubles normally, but you do loose some control of the cone on the woofer(dampening factor) and it also increases the load on the cars electrical system in most cases. a modest amp run on 1ohm as long as its digital class amp, not AB class should be fine expect to use at least 4ga wire from battery, a big fuse block/breaker to protect the car from shorts. and a ground distibution block to make it look nice

I would run a Dual 4ohm voice coil sub in parallel imo at 2ohm load to a mono amp unless you want to compete in sound offs for max SPL

and 4 channel for speakers, or can i use a 2 ch for speakers? best bet is a 4 channel in the 40-75watt RMS power range to retain fader from front to rear speakers, if you only use a 2 channel amp you will loose that option. or run the rears on the back channels of the radio, not ideal!! but fader will work then (and cap the bass out of the rears to avoid distortion)run the 4channel amp on the high pass xover to block out the deep bass from the front/rear speakers, around 150 hz or so is a good starting point for 6.5 in speakers, the tweeters normally have seperate xovers to block bass already.

I got a fiberglass subwoofer enclosure for the boot right rear for a 12 inch sub. sounds good, make sure if secured good and sound deaden behind it, the boot lid, and rear bumper area at the min, and doors inside panel and outer skins, sounds way better and not so many rattles

make sure the seal on the sub is perfect, not leaking air when pushed in gentle ?and get a grill on it or kiss it good by when crap his it in the boot make sure the volume of the box is enough, and you might want to add a bit of poly fill, pillow stuffing inside the box to stop standing waves from making the bass sound muddy and loose ?. not too full, and you can spray glue the walls and toss handfuls of it on the glue to stick without hitting the basket on the woofer.

on GTT you can remove the jack and move it to the spare tire well to free up a nice size area for a 10-12 in stealthy installed fiberglass box completely hidden , no loss of boot space either..

and amps can be placed in the drivers side, same area if space permits depending on the amp

the sub can be run off a 1, 2 channel, 4, or even 5/6 channel amp... depends on what you want, how loud, etc, etc

find a good installer ???? Trying to find one. Can you help? :P I could but Im in adelaide. lol PM chris rogers to see if he knows anyone in your area. I only know installers in town, Chris and lots in USA...But thats a bit of a drive underwater....LOL

do you like it loud ? Loud enough but not, blow your mind away, Enjoy RNB music loud this setup will get very loud and be crystal clear if installed right, and sound deadener used

Seriously, DIY is an awesome option. It will save you HEAPS of money, and it's fairly simple once you get the hang of what you need to do - all you need is time. I have absolutly no idea how to install stereo's, but I allowed an entire weekend and I did everything you want to do and a little more. Two entire days is heaps, but for a total newb I needed it. But now I know i saved around $400-$500 an I know the in's and out's of my entire system, as well as how to gut my car and strip the dash out. It's worth it - give it a go.

Honest truth..

Front: Rockford Fosgate 6.5 Splits $200 Delivered

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-ROCKFORD-FOSGAT...id=p3286.c0.m14

Rear: Rockford Fosgate T162C $208 Delivered

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Rockford-Fosgate-T1...id=p3286.c0.m14

Sub: Anything you want .. Stick with your Pioneer if you want..

Amp: Jaycar's Response 5 Channel Full Range $599

http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA...mp;SUBCATID=595

On a budget of $2000, Look for an alright source unit with at least 2 pairs or 3 pairs of RCA's. If you cant find out, you will need to split your RCA's.

This will give you crisp sound, and if need be if you want a lil' bit of thump always ways of tuning the amp to do so :P .

IMHO Response Amps > Pioneer amps ( Sony, Fusion etc etc )
