Hey Guys,

Just wanted to know,

SRI Carbon Fibre Cold Airbox - Nissan Skyline GTS-T/GTT

Is the part above legal and will it pass a defect inspection, i've spoken to a friend and he claims it should,

But the damn mechanic said No, i think he's just being a *&^!!,

Like honestly what if we can't get the original part, what do we do then.

My father in law threw mine out, shouldn't of left it in his shed.

Yeah I agree, thats not really an airbox, just a heat shield, and being shiny carbon fibre doesnt look stock either, Just ring a few jap wreakers.

Someone will have one, and you wont need the snorkle to pass, just the airbox

the last cop that pulled me over for a "random" breath test and look under the hood said as long as the pod is fully enclosed its not a defect. i only have some shitty ally cover i made over mine and i didn't get done. as for EPA i'd say you would need the stocko air box, i have mine in the shed

Thanks Guys,

To avoid having to repeat the entire process i'm opting for a factory box,

Unlucky me, the same cop chased me down as i took my son to Macdonalds, out of nowhere he did a starsky and hutch and pulled me over again like i was some sort of killa,

Geez, some just need some sex in their life.

I've got that airbox. It's hard as shit to install if you don't cut the bottom out of that back circle... It makes the job 3 minutes instead of 3 hours...

Pod filters are an interesting piece of law actually. Has ANYONE (cop, engineer, mechanic etc) EVER showed you a piece of paper saying the pod filters need to be covered? I've never seen one, and my engineer (Morry Akbarian, first engineer on the engineers list) says there is no such law.

WHY does it have to be enclosed? What do you have to enclose the pod from? What if it's outside the engine bay?

I would love to see some paperwork on this...

I would also like answers to those questions Doof. Have only ever been told by the law that is has to be, never any paperwork or acutual reason why. I guess from a performence point of view it makes sense to avoid some heat soak.

I've asked different police, never the same answer. One said it was a fire hazard, that a backfire could set it alight... I went on to remind him that true backfires are only from carby engines, not direct injection, and that that would only apply to oiled foam filters... This is after making sure that he wasn't talking about a backfire from the exhaust, which would be rediculous...

Another said it was a sound issue. Kind of a dumb thing to talk about when a guy has the plates DRD-00F... I questioned him as to how it would ever exceed 90dbs, and that induction noise is on every car to some aspect, has no db rating on it and therefore does not fall under the undue/excess noise laws.

Anything other than a stock airbox is a defect, sealed or unsealed or covered or not

Engineers will only approve of aftermarket airfilters if it is enclosed, i.e. if the pod is enclosed in the corner and also engineered, it will pass.

Most of the time a black enclosure will deter most cops, but that is still regarded as defective.
