Thrust bearing knocking

Hey all,

I'm looking at buying an R32 GTS, however there's a knocking noise when the car's in neutral, or when the clutch is in. I've been told (by the seller) that it's the thrust bearing, but it's nothing to be concerned about immediately and should cost ~$300 to fix. Is this reasonable? And could this be a sign of abuse?

Thrust bearings wear out, not really a sign of abuse. $300 to replace sounds normal as they have to drop the gearbox and remove the clutch (I think) to get at it.

If you're doing this you may as well replace your clutch and possibly put in a lightened flywheel while you're at it.

How much do you think it cost with a flywheel and decent clutch?> (no need for anything extreme given that it is just a GTS)

for a good daiken execdy organic clutch, expect around 900 fitted in sydney. That includes machining ure current flywheel.

If ure after a new flywheel based on performance, expect around 600 odd. They're worth it, though only when ure doing ure clutch.

So about $1600 for the clutch, new flywheel and thrust bearing installed? Or does the clutch come with one?

Most times when you replace the clutch, you buy a clutch kit, they usualy come with clutch plate, thrust bearing and a pressure plate included in the box.

Is the car you are looking at a GTS or GTS-T?
