I should have added to my last post,

The crappy tyres were Nankangs (Not my choice, stuck in the middle of no where with the tyres loosing air due to wear)

I owned all tyres since new and my opinion was based upon solely those tyres I tested and tyre comparo's.

I have tried to find other tyres but nothing could match the Federals in Price per Performance. If I had the money I would get the Pilot Sports due to my experiance with them on the motorcycle, but they were more then double the price.

And don't believe any tyre merchants, no tyre lasts the KM's they say it will on a GTR, particularly one with lots of power that is being used as it should be. Saying that Mic is probably one of the more knowledgeable and truthful reps around.

I have to agree with everyone when it comes to the Federal RS-R, When it comes to dry grip for money, there is nothing better. Dereck and Fifth Gear use the RS-R on the track aswell.

I've used a bunch of tyres on and off the track (and skidpan), and I don't use anything but Bridgestones and Federals anymore, and if it wasn't for the fact federals don't make a 225/50 r16 I would use them all the time.

Anyway these are honest opinions of the tyres I've used

Federal

-595RS-R Excellent Dry grip, good K's for a sticky tyre, and predictable in the wet (and dry) and NOTHING better for price, great for track use

They make every tyre size EXCEPT FOR 225/50 R16 (17's are coming, dont worry)

-595SS Good Bargain street tyre, Last really well and quiet

Bridgestone

-RE001 Best cold start STREET tyre I have used, Not as grippy as the RS's in the Dry but V.good in the wet. K's no better than RS's when driven hard, but handle abuse well, fairly expensive

-RE050 Almost as grippy as RE001's in the dry, better in the wet and Super expensive and don't handle abuse well

Recommend Track use

-RE55 SUPERSOFT Most grip I have ever have wet or dry, little slippery for first KM, Don't last more than 1000kms, really expensive

-RE55 Hard Will never get to temp on the street and never get to grip, great track tyre

Goodyear

-Eagle F1 Assymetric, average dry grip, squealy, superb in the wet

Khumo

-KU31 Cheapest tyre i would almost recommend, don't last long at all, Federal SS's do everything better.

Dunlop

-Imported Z-01, Crap, anything that has been used and then stored or improperly stored, seems to be crap

Depends on what your after really

Good post fellas. Particularly a20089 about the Federals. For more information about other tyres I've had recently that I can remember:

Nankang = terrible

Nexen = tyres I bought with the GTR and they were absolute rubbish (being slightly bald didn't help)

Dunlop SP Max Sport = Great tyre, but they aren't worth the entry price - my Toyo T1Rs are just as good

Falkan Azeni = Not that great - particularly shit when cold

BF Goodrich Radial T/A = Not recommended for GTR but looks good on American muscle

Cooper GT Radial = Same as the BFG above LOL

heyya

I have Nankangs or nexen as they are the same company on the front atm 255/45/18 and they are loosing air all the time as they are old

absolute rubish tyre heaps of understeer and no grip in the wet i bought them as cause i had no money at the time for a decent pair of tyres took them to the track the next day it was quiet interesting as they were on the rear at the time lost traction alot at wakefeild and got serveral warnings lol.

on the rear atm i have the Federal 595 RSR great tyre best bang for buck same size 255/45/18

as mentioned by someone above, I also I use and recommend the Toyo T1R(S). I have a set of the T1S (now discontinued) and they are great tyres. I payed about $300 a tyre (5 years ago and they are still like new - because they have only done 6000km LOL).

would use them again, fitted toyos to my wifes car which only used to run on top end bridgestone (far better tyre IMO)

goodyear eagle f1's must be the most over rated tyre in the world but are good in the wet.

khumo ku19s are piece of crap have heard good things for ku31's

achilles(on at the moment) grippy in the dry ok in the wet tyre wear bad but wat do you expect for a $160 225/40/18

maxis are good in the wet ok in the dry and tyre wear is long lasting.

nexen's are piece of crap and will neer get them again they are on my drift wheels and are even to crap for that.

there the ones i have tryed. have a good one, stu

I had some cheapo put on for compliance, but replaced with dunlop sp maxx after some looking around + getting prices. I got a set of four from Kmart tyre auto for $170 a tyre (others were around $230ish). Can't compare to other tyres but for the price I will be getting them again. The hold the road really well, including in the wet. I find that with my stock power, i still have to try to get the rear out, they grip quite well.
