With New Server ordered plus hosting costs, etc - I reckon we should be helping contribute:

Other States are : See here :

VIC: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...&threadid=28186

WA: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...&threadid=28043

BTW - Recognition for the T-Shirts donation should really go 50:50 to P1E and those who bought T-Shirts as it was a team excersise.

So donate people !

I would presume that 'a new server' means a dedicated, real , live phyical server !

I dunno what SCA drives are - is that the same as Serial ATA ?

But Web Server drives should be SCSI - ATA drives are no good for multi user environments

Server NICs should be multi-homed / teamed.

ISP Service provider should provide load balancing at layer 2 & 3.

Web server should be backed up daily to local tape drive

MySQL database should be shut down (Sau unavailable) during backup windows. ( or hot backup enabled)

Full change control should be implemented.

etc, etc.

Woa, did you just quote me this out of a textbook? :D That's Project Management material sir!

SCA are the 80 pin honda hotswap connectors used on SCSI drives.

There have been a few writeups on ATA/SATA raid configs used in large live environments, given the cost I don't really see the need for SCSI drives anymore... unless you get them at an _extremely_ good price (like free ;)).

Just as a side note, I think that list might be a little old. I know I've sent about 150-200 all up now...

But your right.. More people should donate instead of taking this site for granted.

Prank does a great job, spends a fair wack of time doing it, and get's paid nothing !!

J

wow - thanks guys!! I really appreciate it!!

Regarding the server, as donations come in quite sporadically, I have opted for a HP P4 2.0Ghz (IDE) 80GB drive and have just upgraded to 1 gig of RAM.. If I get enough donations and more, I will put it on a Dual Xeon server next year with SCSI drives. It is entirely SAU's server with nothing else going on it (apart from 5mb blocks of webspace for donaters) and the physical server is in the US. It should make everything much better and we can upgrade again later if we need to.

Thanks again guys.

Christian

Don't wish to sound rude, though u sure the box has been configured properly? With hardware like that (bar the ide drive), it should absolutely scream for just this website.

Im happy to offer any help to get things running better, got a fair bit of experience with it all, though im sure many others are in IT here as well.

On a side note Ill donate in a month or 2 when I have abit more cash :) These forums have provided an endles amount of very handy knowledge.

Hey Brody - the sites not on there yet. It will be transfered over the weekend (hopefully, i have just order more ram and am waiting for them to get back to me).

If I have any probs, i'll let you know. Cheers.

Hey Christian, would we notice if there was any problem with the forums? Coz I've had some problems in the last few days

    • I don’t really have any ideas how to set the timing on the CAS 😂, sounds like the top, sounds like it maybe misfiring as well as ticking,  got the box sorted 😌, must of been a air bubble on the clutch side
    • Use a 2' length of hose (that's 2 foot, not 2 inches) as a stethoscope to localise the source of the ticking. From cam covers? From exhaust or turbo manifold gasket? From injectors? From lower down in the engine? Etc. Use a timing light to set the timing. Put Redline Lightweight Shockproof in the box. It's not the very best thing for the box, but it will take a box that refuses to engage a gear with other oil, and make it engage a gear. I had to put it in when I installed the R33 box I have in my car. It would not select ANY gear when running. Smurf jizz made it work. That was >10 years ago and I still use it. I'm stuck with it now. Failing that - rebuild the box.
    • Well done Duncan. The fuel tank bulkhead lid is also in great condition (some of mine were stuffed). These are now out of production and good ones like that are becoming hard to come by.
    • Wow that's a steal, you've done well there.
