Hey guys, another update...

The ex is in @ hyperdrive for a few days.

Putting on an SR throttle body, a metal oil drain and finishing off the tune (finally!)

Also heard from Andrew that my turbo might be on its way out too :P

Hope its not the case but ill have to wait and see what he said after i get the car back on Monday.

Ill be looking at either a GT2871r or 2860r. ill see what 1k will get me. might have to side for a journal bearing one instead, i dont really mind.

only looking @ 8 pound boost and 240whp (the torque steer is crazy as it is @ 212wph!!)

but for now, until i can confirm that the turbo is fvcked, im gonna leave it as is, and keep the same boost level.

Stay tuned.

Wasnt the turbo just rebuilt? Rebuilding would be another option for you. Everything is set up for that turbo, so it'll bolt straight up. And it'll have enough power for you. Lag may be a bit of an issue, mine doesnt reach full boost until 4000rpm, but there are always ways around that. Smaller exhaust housing, for example.

Just another option for you. Good to hear its almost ready to go!

Hey guys, bit of an update.

Car's back from Hyperdrive with the new throttle and oil drain.

I've just got back from Malaysia too, and picked up some small goodies while i was there...

Found these little chrome badges and went to town on the back of the ex. And yes, I just made up my own Model designation :)

GT-L is a luxury sport version  I should go to Nissan with my plan...

Couple of HD stickers from Andrew, proud to have this on my car that's for sure...

This is the (great) work that Andrew and the boys did on the throttle. Its from an SR20DE so its 65mm IIRC.

Stock one was 70mm so its not really a noticeable jump. Didn't think I'd loose any power and from driving around, it doesn't feel like i have.

Maybe a bit better low down in fact, and definitely more response - prob cos its manual instead of automated. Note the first pic of the pedal, i had to keep the stock pedal cos the sensor on it controls the 4WD split. So It wasn't just a case of using the GTi-R pedal (the cable came from a pulsar GTi-R)...

Still thinking I'll upgrade the turbo soon.

looking at a KKR430 or a 2860r - depending on funds.

I'd like the KKR cos its a little bigger, should have more power, but the 2860 is a QUALITY snail...

Both should work well on my motor I think.

But for now, the car just needs a final re-tune, the dyno was booked out last week, the new throttle changes the airflow into the engine, so that needs to be corrected...

Cam.

Is the turbo actualyl on its way out? Or just looking to upgrade anyway?

i really have no idea man, the shaft play is very minimal, doesnt blow an smoke, no noises, boosts well etc...

I'll upgrade anyway soon, cos its pretty small, i'd love something with more head room, like a 2876/71 maybe. Something good for 350-400hp.

I'm not looking for anywhere near that power level, just want something with a bit more push.

and the wheels are dirty AND need repainting, but im not gonna bother, im getting a set of these soon, as soon as money provides, thats the next thing for the car, so theres no point in painting them again i figure.

re: the writing on the tyres, i did them like that when i was going for the 4wd look, which never works that well with a soft roader lol

rest assured, new low profile tyres with said wheels wont have the 4wd look haha

Cam.

Yeah light offroad duties, beach and dirt tracks but obviously no rock hopping and mud pits.

I'm keeping the current stock wheels for some offroad tyres, so i can have offroad tyres on the stock rims, then the 19s and street tyres on the others.

Final tune should be late this week, early next week, ill call Andrew and book it in tomorrow.

haha nah no airbags i dont think...

im mainly getting the coilovers for the handling, not really gonna change the ride height too drastically....

too lowered itll look like a fkn gay minitruck sorta thing

and too high itll just look half like a tough 4wd, half like a street car. = fail.

standard ride height, maybe an inch lower would be good...

Nice build!! loving it! really hanging to see in car videos and dyno graphs when its finished!

Would definitely be worthwhile to have a look at the suspension set up, having driven an x-trail a bit before they arent great, and i would imagine it would be harder to handle with the extra power???

Thanks man, yeh stock internals are good for about 280-300whp and head gaskets are more a function of age (how old the motor is)...

You're probably familiar with a Nissan Sentra right? They share the same QR25DE motor that the x-trails have, and heaps of guys in the US put turbo kits on, there's bin bulk research done by them so i've sorta stolen all their hard work and applied it on my car...

Yeh they do handle like a boat... Im looking at coilovers soon a company in malaysia called hotbits make x-trail specific ones, a strut brace and a bigger rear sway bar to rid of that understeer...

Good 280-300whp

SRT, Porsche Cayenne Turbo S in race did not go with them?

dont know about the porsche... never bin in one or seen one given shit, i cant imagine it being more than 280whp stock though.

i rekon id have a chance :P

    • I've got cash, it's the NA LOLS I'm after now Plus, I've had a few boosted cars, and it is soooo easy to turn a reliable car into a unreliable drivetrain eating money pit monster by just paging up and chasing more My power goal for the NC is to try for a reliable naturally aspirated 150kw or 200hp atw (I'm old, and the old naturally aspirated cherry of 100hp per litre is a goal that I would like to hit), no more is really needed for what I use the car for,  so a additional 5kw is what I'm chasing now,  that 5kw is about $3k away, I think....
    • I dunno. I just go off what I know works. On RB20, the idle switch meant something to the ECU and the potentiometer was ignored. In Nistune, with the switch unplugged, you could bridge the terminals in the loom connector and see IDLE come on and off. Not so by moving the pot. The R32 RB20 ECU and the 26 ECU both look like this. Sure there is the "throttle sensor" (pot) on pin 38, and also sure, the idle switch is also directly wired to the TCU, whereas the pot is only directly conected to the ECU. But I am sure that the throttle position from the pot is passed to the TCU across the data bus on pins 21, 22 & 31. Maybe the ECU likes to know throttle position, but it sure as hell doesn't use it to determine the idle condition. Meanwhile, on the later engines, like the 33 25DET and my Neo, you remove the TPS and move the pot to-from the 0.45V position, and IDLE comes and goes in Nistune. No throttle switch on the ECU diagram. Just the pot.
    • So, good news and bad news Bad news first: The intake plenum is lost in the mail apparently, I haven't paid for it yet, and MX5 Mania are still chasing it up, farking 'Merica postal service  Good news: Any retune will be free if and when it turns up,  I'm still keen for them to throw it on The car goes noticeably better, with only the typical initial take off thingie from a choppy cam and manual transmission, but giving it just a little more RPM than before gives it a smooth take off (and hour or so of peak hour traffic sorted that little skill out) Car made around 145kwatw & 225Nm (Intake may get me to 150kw, maybe....🤣) Weirdly, 145kwatw is the same max power that my standard 2015 WRX STI made a few years ago The cam really comes alive from around 3.5k and keeps making power and holds it flatish all the way to 7k, whereas before torque would drop hard around at 4.5k Drive home was sadly in peak hour, although I did get a little clean air here and there to wind out 1st and 2nd a little bit, and whilst the gains aren't anything for the "boosted boys" to be impressed at, the thing is a blast to drive The sound in the vid is poor, as it is in a undercover yard at work, but, outside, in the wild, it sounds awesomeballs to my ears with all the choppyness I consider it money very well spent for the outcome  Cam specs for reference (Basically the biggest you can fit with stock pistons) 20250417_171807.mp4   LOL, I don't think I will ever grow up
    • Swap the injectors around and see what happens. If the misfire follows the injectors then that's a signal, if it doesn't it's probably not the injectors.
