This might've been asked already but were you able to keep the A/C?

Nah no ones asked it before!

lol yeh i kept it. Full climate control system works perfect. I had to bend one of the aircon lines out of the way of the dump pipe, but other than that, didnt touch the A/C system...

The only thing ive lost is cruise control due to the mechanical throttle conversion. But I think i can live with that :)

Hey guys.

Took the car back to Andrew for a touch up tune.

My car was cruising a bit lean so he put a bit of fuel in those load points, then took some out under load cos it was a bit rich.

As normal its not accepting much ignition timing at all... This is prob cos of the heat that this crappy turbo is generating.

here's the maps of the boost vs power and AFR and power:

*note the wastegate that cant control boost, the wastegate is set @ 6psi, but it rises to 11psi!

its not an issue though cos its tuned for 11psi and never spikes more than that...

So I'm still making 190hp with a blown turbo! haha

I've lost about 25hp from the initial run of 212hp.

The important thing is, its making 140kw at the wheels, where stock it makes 80kw (tested by some guys in sydney) :) thats still a 75% increase in power over stock :)

RE: new turbo: I've settled on a GT2860r -7 commonly known as the great disco potato

They are rated @ 180-310hp and ill aim to run 8psi and make 220-230whp or 170kw ;)

Should have it in a few weeks then I'll go back to Andrew (again!) and have another power run

Stay tuned!

What ya mean whens the world gonna see it!? Ive bin boosting around for the last 4 months! ;)

I'm planning to rock along to the next SAUWA cruise, im keeping an eye on the events section!

As for whoop ass wednesday, im not too sure...

I just dont have the money to replace things if anything goes bang...

having said that i have been giving it a raping on the street and apart from the turbo, it hasnt looked once like its gonna give up!

So it should be ok for a run or two at motorplex, ill just have to wait till the new turbo is on, tuned and ran in etc...

Hey. Update time...

My turbo is well and truly shagged. Blowing more and more smoke by the day...

Not to worry though! Mr. Garrett to the rescue: 23659_415684987904_526132904_4767179_1362572_n.jpg

That's a 350hp GT2860rs with a 0.64 A/R.

I'm predicting the response and midrange on the QR25 2.5L is gonna be off the scale.

Hoping i can still make north of 250hp on not much more than 10psi.

It's making 212hp on 11psi when it first got tuned, on a tiny, crappy VG30 turbo... Hopefully with a bigger one turbo ill pick up a bit extra due to better exhaust flow, and less charge heat will allow andrew to add in some decent timing as opposed to the <5 deg that ive got atm under load

For the conversion, so far ive got: t28 and 5bolt dump flanges, gaskets, cooler pipe couplers, oil drain flange, oil fitting to fit existing line and GT28 turbo and water lines.

From here all I need to do is:

-rip off the old turbo and manifold

-get t28 flange welded onto current manifold

-get dump modified for 5bolt flange, where a 4bolt sits now.

-modify oil drain to suit new turbo

-install water lines and tee into heater hoses

-source 480009 - 9 (7psi) actuator (stock one is for 13psi - too much for now)

-install boost controller and set to 10psi

-tune

I'll post updates as i get them, cos THIS is what i should have done in the first place instead of this VG30 fail of a turbo...

Stinger 4424.

I love it. Havn't had any dramas at all! It was a dream to install, got everything working first time, felt very compatible.

Only thing is the electronic throttle fvcked up, but i knew what that was...

Andrew from Hyperdrive has been doing it all, hes the one who recommended this ECU.

From what I've seen/tuned/adjusted its great!

The softwares easy to use, the datalogging more so, havn't had an inch of tune drift or anything wrong tune wise.

That's more a credit to Andrew though...

Why do you ask? I've heard a few ppl bag them out, but I'd use again!

Cool, good to hear.

I ask becuase the 6860 is on the list of potentials for my race car..just gott weigh up whether buying the ECU and then having to buy ignitors and even the loom seperatly is worth it compared to paying a few bucks more for a haltech PS2000 or wolf v500

Yeah the motorsport series are even better than the Stinger, more features and better resolution maps. the depth of tune is pretty amazing!

Plus theyve got wideband input too, which makes them that much easier a to tune and analyse.

I dont know about Volf computers, i didnt look into them much when i was searching...

What engine is in your race car?

Have a look around some forums and see which computer suits to your engine well, and what others have done...

Most people wait at least a year before they upgrade their turbo >_< Jks mate.

How long will that take to get to get it up and running, man? Hopefully you can get it to Kwinana before they close for winter! With any luck (and my license back) I'll be able to get down there myself.

im hoping 2 weeks rhys...

all i need to do really is modify the exhaust mani and the dump. the rest i can knock off in half a day...

then hyperdrive can do the tuning, thats it!

still gotta sort out a wastegate actuator though, need a garrett low pressure one, not the high pressure one thats on it now...

as for kwinana, im not really that keen until EVERYTHING's 100%, im still a while off yet.

Ok, seriously, is my car THAT hated by everyone or am I going crazy?

I just had some guy (who will remain name-less for his sake - and because i have maturity) just PMd me, and said: (i quote) "you car is gay , im thinking of putting a turbo on my mums car as well ." (unquote)

I didn't know my car was hated that much that someone would go out of their way to express that.

And he owns a GTR too, no shit your car is better than mine, you don't have to exclaim it to the world.

LOL.

Name & Shame + Report Abuse.

Don't worry about these tossers man, I get it all the time "bunky" - "thats ALOT of work man, not even worth it", peice of shit, my bog stock r33 "gtr" (gtr, gtst, same same) is fasterrrrrz lolz. These morons don't even work on their own cars. Fully sick workshop stickers on my quater panel ulleh, more horsepower.

If this guy had a GTR, or balls, he'd post it, not PM you.

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
