Hi there..second post here..but I am currently Looking for a new car towards early next year...

I am looking for an R32 Gtst or a type M. I have a dillema.

Im not sure whether to import it from say, Prestige motorsports or get one from a dealer with a 1 year warranty.

I currently have a car I would like to trade in to reduce the cost of the purchase. A dealer i have found is Sei motors in Dandenong..ever heard of them? their 92 Gtst are about $17900.

70k's and apparently immac cond /w 1year warranty.

http://www.seimotors.com.au/hotlist/dealer...=../default.asp

any other dealers out there that has better deals than these? or 17900 is pretty good? also another thing about importing is that I am very cautious about the quality of the car in whole when importing..i mean it looks good on photo but with a dealer atleast u can have a look in the interior ect or take it to a vehicle tester.....so all in all not sure what to do..i hope u guys can enlighten me on this...

thanks in advance.

Bandit.

17900 is the biggest rip off for an R32 I've heard of. I'm being honest here.

R32 GTSt, dun expect to pay more than 14k for one. Hell for 17k you'd get an R33 GTSt in good condition. Also check the condition of the car, 70000ks for a 11 yr old car seems a bit bogus, sumtimes it isn't but usually it is.

Check out some other import yards, there's a few around, couple in Springvale and a couple like MSI etc. Check out classic car mags for more details, that's where they usually advertise the import car yards. Mind you most cut-throat car yard ppl tend to play on your doubts if your new to the game, wheras personal importers will tell you straight out the procedure, cost and what their cut of it is. MSI I've been told have a good rep and are genuine dealers and there are a few around, you jus gotta talk to people who have been in the import scene for a while now.

I'd personally reccomend doing a personal import. Prestige is OK, but they're mostly yahoo auction cars n stuff, you gotta pay a lump sum and you never really know exactly how much you apy for each thing along the way. Another alternative is J-Spec (www.j-spec.com.au), they break down all the costs into every single cost incurred from buying the car to handing over the keys and you get recipts for everything.

As for the cars, both importers use agents in Japan, and get their agents to test the cars out etc. They let you know the condition of the car before bidding for you. I've gone thru J-Spec b4 and what they do is they give you the Jap auction report (so u know what the auction engineer thinks of the car) and also they hardly ever import a car that is less than grade 3.5 (check their website for grading) unless you tell them to.

The chances of things going wrong with either of them is very minimal, and even if they did, both companies allow you to take out warranties with an aussie company for an extra cost. (Which is still pretty much guranteed to keep your price under 15k). Keep the extra cash n fix the car up if you have to (it'll still b under 17k lol)

Anyways, hope it helps, n good luck.

Or get an R32 from someone who's selling in this forum. IMHO, I think the guys here look after their cars pretty well and may want an upgrade to something else, so it's a good opportunity to take their 32s off them. I think nark's got his car for sale?

And...uhh..I personally wouldn't dare buy something some of the import yards mentioned.

yup, buy Narks..or if you want something faster, buy Meggalas

a history and somebody who looks after their car is worth its weight in gold. Always be weary of dealers, as they are only looking for the most profits at least costs. Often that means buying cheap or damaged cars dirt cheap in japan: respraying them, slapping in the cheapest replacement engine they can find, etc.

Hey,

Great to hear that your thinking of joining the Skyline clan. I think funky has pretty much sumed it up, but the only thing I can re-iterate is, do not go to an import yard. You will find that the quality of these vehicles are well below par on what you can get either through a private sale or through import.

I personally, have a cousin who works for an import yard, and he too recommended that I by my Skyline elsewhere. Sure that must be a testament to the lack of quality at these yards. And for $17K for a R32, thats just ridiculous!

Personally, I went through j-spec, along with many a guys here on tehe forum. Didn't have too many dramas and can vouch for the quality of service from these guys. I mean, my Skyline is probably the most expensive thing that I have ever bought, and these guys were there helping me every step of the way. Bonus is, these guys are also located in Melb too, so having that extra face to face contact also does allay any fears or hesistation that you may have.

So yes, as Ait mentioned, either try some the for sale section in these forums, or give J-spec a call.

Be sure to tell us what you decide on in the end.

Cheers

My R32 GTSt was imported through SEI by the previous owner in march this year. Went well for him, but what he paid was pretty high. But then again the car is in really good condition.

Ive been to SEI a few times and none of the cars there look like they are worth $17900, except maybe the yellow GTSt with the GTR kit. (if thats still there) But it was for sale for $24k or something. All the cars at SEI that ive seen look rough, stereos missing, tears in interior, and even ciggie butts in the ashtrays still!!

But no one can comply R32s at the moment so unless u want to wait buying one here is the only option. I think $14000 to $17000 is a good price for the right car.

who would want to get a R33 for $16k, when u can get an R32 for the same price!! hehe

Thanks for the help guys, I have had a look at the Jspec and I have joined their emailing list... I probably wont make my purchase till early next year when they start hopefully importing r-32's again. I am doing a lot of search early on and making sure what options I have. ( u know how it is when ure exited about gettin a new car ect =) ) anyhow, Ill keep u guys posted and thanks again for the help. =)

B.

Good idea, hold off for a bit. I'm not a fan of dealers. They just usually add 4-5k on the price and sell the car they imported themselves. If you have the option to get a risbey, go for it I say just wait till next year and dig in. Much preferred option rather than a dealer.

    • Ok cool, because I do have some OEM BMW options for light(er) wheels. 17x8.5 M Sport wheels are 11kg and I could put 255's on them. Maybe that's an initial test.
    • So, in the effort of pulling apart airboxes and testing enclosures to see if this aids in MAP loss at WOT I noticed: 1) The ducts up the OEM intercooler holes from the front bar help IAT drastically, whether the pod is shielded from the engine bay by an airbox missing a lid, or an airbox WITH a lid. Plus you get more induction sound without the lid. Having half the airbox (with no lid) acting as a barrier to the headers seems to help. 2) For shits and giggles I checked the TB. This was full pedal travel. This is actually full travel of the TB. Photos aren't perfect, but there was definitely an amount of play in it and it wasn't against the stop. After much swearing and adjusting the pedal, I realised that the cable is actually too long for the skyline pedal travel to fully articulate it. Having the pedal adjusted so WOT was actually hard open on WOT resulted in an idle of 3500rpm. As an aside, this was also the TPS registering at 3.1%. I removed the above to give the pedal enough travel to actually fully open the TB. I now get a satisfying 'thonk' on full open and full closed which you can hear pumping the pedal as it hits the TB stops (with the bonnet open and intake back on). Luckily for me, the screw screws into a raised metal boss under this plastic piece that is now acting as the new throttle stop. I've gained about 20mm (ish) of pedal travel and I can move it maybe a mm or two post open-thonk before it's hard against the stop. After all of this I did a bit of road tuning because a 102MM throttle is sensitive. The difference between holding an 950rpm idle and instantly stalling is about 0.4% of TPS movement. Will that help? I suppose it can't hurt. I set 'closed' point back to where it was, I can definitely feel the extra pedal travel that is needed to actually open the TB fully. But this morning I dropped the car off at Paint Jail again, so who knows when this will re-eventuate out to see if it helps with the top of the dyno hitting a ceiling.
    • Take heart that everyone else seems to have found a way. The OEM S1 indicators do slot in pretty firmly. It may simply be a case of having them sit slightly looser and nobody actually ever noticed this when attempting to remove a indicator from a JSAI bar :p
    • If the original NA ECU has a separate TCU then you are going to need to reroute wires that used to run between the trans and the TCU to the appropriate (1 to 1 equivalent) pins on the ECU. Other than that, it should work. Look up posts by @Kinkstaah on the subject.
    • So the stagea was a series 2 neo det with tiptronic auto. (I have the transmission aswell) and has integrated tcu in the ecu. I'm hoping to use the entire stagea ecu, engine and auto harness.
