Hi Guys,

I've got a display screen in my car which has as reversing camera (which works great), however it also has a GPS, and a DVD Player in the glove box, The only problem is the GPS is in Japanese, Is their a way to download Australian maps onto it and change it to english?

Plus I've tried playing a dvd and it doesn't recognise it.

Further more I can pick up tv channels that have no picture but i can hear everything clear as a bell.

Thoughts?

Thanks for your help

Cheers

Panasonic Sat Nav manuals

No way to put Aus maps on it, but......

You are miles ahead of the factory Sat Nav for two reasons.

1. you already have phono inputs and outputs from the unit. Makes it easy to connect ipod for music and movies or AUS standard Digital TV tuner

2. you have a DVD player, not just a DVD rom. Out of the box you can play NTSC region free DVDs. My Chinese knock offs play fine and the picture is great.

I have just completed installation in my car with a PA11-NIS working with the iPod as a pretend Auto changer. I have also used the phono inputs on the PA11 to connect the output of the satnav to the factory audio. This means that DVDs play with sound through the stereo. Finally, I also bought a Griffin Tune Center. Griffin Tune Center, and installed it in the armrest. This is now plugged into the Sat Nav inputs with the screen displaying song information... I only use this on longer trips as if forgets what track it was playing when I turn off the car. It is controlled by its original remote using this IR Extender.

As a bonus, whilst it was apart, I reversed the manual mode gearshift, so it is now logical, and because everthing is now packed much tighter, a squeak that was in the cuphole area, has gone..

2.5 hours well spent...

Are you saying that the DVD rom has a an input for Video?

If so, how do you get this input to play on the screen?

Cheers

Andy

Panasonic unit has DVD player, not DVD rom and also audio and composite inputs and audio outputs... Found the reversing camera plug and mode as well...

Whilst not as integrated as the OEM units they do have more functions out of the box... even if I do miss out on the economy leaf.. :D

oh my god!

Your a legend buddy, I've just installed a new Head Unit because the standard one ate my michael jackson CD isn't that ironic? haha

I will have a look at those manuals but seriously, absolute legend! cheers for that. so you can play normal dvd's in your and you can watch tv?

Can't watch TV, as I have not fitted the AUS spec tuner and I wasn't so fussed... The panasonic unit also plays MP3s with control via the touch screen, but as the DVD is under the seat (glovebox would have been so more useful) I'm not going to muck about changing discs... and so went down the iPod route.

All came about because the in dash 6 disc was stuffed when I bought the car... AUD 500 to fix. I spent less than that buying this gear on eBay, even the 30Gb iPod video.. I can watch movies off the iPod as well as the DVD player... Had an enjoyable drive down to the inlaws last weekend, with my 15 month old gloriously happy watching Monsters inc. With the DVDs, must be NTSC and must be either Japanese region, or region free. As soon as you have that it will work fine..

    • So we have most the interior back in, and for the first time with one OEM speaker hooked up. The 31 is running, driving and now tunes!!! Hahaha yet another step for the sub that sat 10m under for two weeks!!! unbelievable really 👌 lots of love work and not giving up on her. Seen so many youngsters part way less, and in way better condition. I’m stubborn, thinking another problem is just a hurdle to overcome, One at a time. IMG_9277.mov
    • That is correct. I'm using a modified ABS ring and a ZF speed sensor on my rear diff for speed input. I'm running a Haltech ecu.
    • Been busy with the newborn. We originally thought we were going to go for a third, but we're good with two lol. He's starting to actually sleep now so I've had some energy to work on the car. It's been parked away in the garage since late November due to winter.  I went ahead and redid all my head oil drains. I originally had my front and rear head drain going into the same pipe but have since split them up. I also added an Ethanol content sensor to get ready to run E85 this summer. Tossed it on my return line. Sensor sits nicely under my intake manifold.    I also have a lot of parts that came in for my rear end. I'll be swapping over to a 3.3 final drive and doing the GK teck anti squat mod. While the rear subframe is off, I'll also change every bushing. We're planning on buying another house soon with the condition that I get at a minimum a 2 door garage, so I'll wait to have more room for this. Now onto the strange things that recently happened... After changing the lower rad hose (It had been sitting in my cabinet for well over a year and was the last hose I had to replace), I let the car idle in the garage to bleed my coolant. After running for a few minutes, it started missing. Got much worst within a minute or two and then stalled and would not restart. My crank sensor decided to crap itself. No damage, no explanation, just died. I went ahead and replaced it with another ZF sensor but the heavier duty stainless model with a shield. Tossed that in and started right up. Has anyone else seen this? I hate when things fail without cause. Luckily this was a blessing in disguise... This lead me to recheck my timing. It seems I may have had a beer or two the last time I had set my TDC angle as I was off exactly 5 degrees... I miscounted a line haha. I was running 5 degrees less then commanded. It's a little embarrassing but helps explain why my dyno operator seemed to think I should be making more then 478rwkws.

    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
