Fuel Pump Upgrade Question

Changing pumps in my Stagea. Does anyone know exactly what this "valve" purpose is? It looks to be 'incomplete' or damaged?

Okay, the pic is a bit blurry, but its the best I can do this time of night.

Its right off the pump. I'm now fitting a Bosch pump and need to know if I can just get rid of this "valve"?

sorry not sure....but if it helps when I fitted my walbro I just left that valve out with no problems. It might be an anti-drain back valve to hold pressure when ignition is off for faster priming....but thats just a guess

Worked out its a relief valve in case of blockage in the line. It does appear mine is faulty ... been having problems getting the FPR set right. Now I know why. I'll remove it and finish fitting my 040 tomorrow.

got the bosch 019 (exact same specs as 040)

fitted it a couple weeks back,will be pulling it out again soon to re-check wiring to make sure the rubber boot things are sweet and replace a line we hagged fitting it

yes its a pressure relief valve. if your fuel line becomes blocked or fuel cant leave the tank for any reason, it opens and released pressure so you dont destroy your fuel pump or blow up fuel lines.

its best to leave it there. if its faulty, replace it. simple as that!

I've built many project cars (and project bikes) with upgraded fuel systems and I've never seen a valve like this before. Never had a problem with any "blockages" in the past.

If there is a blockage, the car won't run ... simple. Plus the fact the 040 is a noisy pump. Only an idiot would keep wanting to crank the car over, ignoring the noise of the straining fuel pump.

i know if my wife was driving and she heard something different, she wouldnt really care... just as an example!

Oh yeah, Ruby, if you can work out how to get a constant 14.4v feed to your fuel pump (which is what a lot of workshops do), then do it. Duncan might be able to explain this, as he was there and involved when his was being replaced.

Can do.... the rewire was very helpful in the 32, not sure if it is such a problem in stag yet since they are new. But basically fuse and run a wire direct from battery to a 30A relay near the pump. Use the current power feed to the pump as the relay signal. Run out from the relay direct to the pump (keep large diameter as long as you can). Directly earth the other side of the pump to chassis.

i think that should do it roo,i often drive home from work without the stereo on,just listening to the noise pump,loud exhaust,squeeky subframe pineapples and the strange rattle in my vents below the windscreen

mine the damn mearcat pod rattles against the windscreen, drives me nuts.

I took the top of my tank, looked at where the pump was and put it all back together to do another day, i know i should do it, but CBF.

I replaced my stocker with a Walbro. There was a suggestion that it wasn't performing and someone lent me a GTR pump to try but it was not very different (was better though) so I swapped it back. I'm quite good at changing pumps now! (Tip - make sure you run down your tank to almost empty before changing pumps!)

If you have not already good idea to get full battery voltage to pump (tutorial in "how to" dept in Skyline section).

mine turned up in the post abit earlier than i expected,so id filled the tank full the night before,did it on a full tank.there nothing quite

like being elbow deep in fuel trying to unclip the farkin cradle
