Would a 19x10.5 +17 wheel and a 19x10 +11 wheel sit out exactly the same distance in relation to the guard?

Or have I got this all wrong?

Yes, but you would have 12mm more inner clearance.

It means that you will have 12mm more clearance between the wheel and the strut.

Thanks mate. Excuse my complete ignorance on the subject but Im presuming thats a good thing as the tyres wont scrub on the strut.

The guys running 19x10.5 with +15 dont have scrubbing issues which means I should be sweet with a 19x10 +11 and it should sit pretty flush with the guards

Yeah if your 10.5J+17 wern't hitting the struts then there is no need to worry it just means with the 10J+11 you will have 12mm extra inner clearance. And to answer your question, yes the 10J+11 will have more dish in that the wheel width overall is smaller but the outer position is the same and the inner clearance is greater.
