Nope, I'd NEVER say "sorry officer" if I didn't need to - they take it as an admission of guilt.

But they DO do the "attitude test" to see how you speak to them, and then sometimes they hit you harder if you give them any lip or say something that they might not like. Best thing to do is be short, concise, but not rude.

I got a iller attitude test once, back when I was only 19 (I'm 21 now) - Got stopped with a mate in my car at around 1am, he was trashed as all hell but I was obviously sober. My windscreen whiper rubber had gone all weird and was defectable. I hadn't noticed as they appeared to be clearing the water off fine. Took me about 10 minutes to convince the cop I didn't know and afterwards I realised that the entire time he was trying to get me to "snap" and be rude.

I just answer everything with "yes sir/officer, no sir/officer" and I always ask them how their night has been and such things.

a few weeks back i drifted a red light only to find a coppa camped there... he checked under my bonnet and in my boot and let me off with a warning and a $200 fine for too much noise...

in saying that i've learnt my lesson

wow you guys must be doing some dumb things or look guilty when police are around! lol

i had a bright yellow S15 with a straight pipe off the back of the turbo, i dont know how many times i was stopped for RBT, but cops wouldnt give me a second look. and the car was effing loud, low and at one stage had 19" ugly-as-sin startcorps! are some of you guys ethnic looking?? im whitey mcwhite and im generally not picked on.

but +1 on the attitude test. dont snap at them, and as already mentioned, be polite. it doesnt cost you anything to be nice to them even if they ARE singling you out.

HAHA!

nah, i'm white and Aussie all the way buddy... moral of the story... If your a smart ass to the cops they will ping you, however saying that if your funny about it.... they might not, my friend had a VL turbo and he's greek was doing 180km p/h in an 80km zone (had his mate the lawyer in the car sitting next to him) cops saw him, came screaming up the road and pulled him over... asked him how fast he was going, he said about 100km p/h cop said you were doing more like 160km's. Policeman said he was going to book him, then his mate the lawyer came in and said where is your evidence on how fast he was going? Cop said I don't need any, Lawyer then said if you want to see us in court and if you want to lose your job you'll give him a ticket. Cop was like fck this and walked off! hahaha (pretty lucky though)

Ahhh to all the people that are saying fight it... why would you? Sure it's lame that they booked you and not the other drivers.. fair enough... but at the end of the day if you went through the stop sign then they have a right to book you..

Touch wood but I have had no dramas at all after owning my GTR for over a year. Ive had cops driving behind me, past me in opposite direction numerous times obviously but have never been pulled over.

Being sensible on the street will go a long way towards not being targeted I believe.

lol that's what i was thinking :)

Cops in NZ are on a ticket quota so pick on easy targets such as imports (especially anything with a big intercooler hanging out front even though they re not illegal) sports cars and motorbikes. However I always stop at stop signs even when it is clearly unnecessary in case there is a cop hiding in the vicinity ( as they do ). That's one of the reasons why I like my Stagea to look stock as ... in fact its one of the reasons I have a Stagea and not a Skyline.

It is amusing when I am in my GTR as cops seem to be attaracted to it for some reason, often chucking a U turn to follow me. They then follow me for a while as they are probably running some checks on the car. Then they pull up beside the car and when they see an old dude with a grey beard driving it they just leave me alone and drive away.

Some times it is good to be old!

If cops target skylines then it's for a reason.

Are they more likely to find a Hyundai Excel driving recklessly & endangering lives or a skyline? Are they more likely to find a car with illegal mods on an Excel or Skyline? Is someone with a Skyline more likely to have a driving record than an Excel driver?

I'm joining the NSW Police Force shortly and no doubt that as a cop I'd be more likely to pull over certain types of imports over other cars.

I guess I've been 'followed' for a while a couple of times when driving the DR - probably because it kind of stands out, and is louder than the average (but not illegally so). I've never actually been pulled over in the last 15 years for a 'check' (perhaps because they pull up my record on the vehicle MDT and see nothing of any concern?). I've been through plenty of RBT's in the DR & the Z with no dramas and the Stagea is a non-issue :)

I think I got more attention driving my dad's 1600 (FJ powered) than any of my cars...

(hmmm, is there a stereotype there?)

:)

But to answer the OP's question; probably, but with good cause for the most part.

Good call son of rajab...

I can see what you're saying.....but

Which is really more dangerous on the road, an R34 skyline with a power fc, exhaust and BOV - or

a Hyundai excel with multiple oil leaks, no brakes, and a 17yo girl doing her make-up as she's driving?

I wonder which one will get pulled over 'randomly' though...

I can see both sides to the arguments. All you can do is don't drive like a spastic, and WHEN you do get pulled over, be nice!

Just to add to the thread, I got pulled over one night around 1am driving home from my g/f's place when out of nowhere a coppa flew out of a side street (cut me off) then did a u-turn and flew up behind me to pull me over for a 'random' breath test. Never happened in my corolla that I drove for over 4 years though....

Fully agree with you. In my perfect world I'd change the laws to allow safe mods to be done without trouble (many safe mods are defectable) and then implement something like QLDS roadworthy to be carried out annually.

I Agree. Everytime i have gone in ma mates r33 and cops have gone past us no cops have pulled us over because he drives sensible.

i swear to god, my mate in a moloo ute dont a really small fishy infront of a highway patrol and i got pulled and sent to the DECC to inspect my car. we were leaving a petrol station on the northen road in sydney i dont nothing and i got pulled.

HOW DOES THAT WORK.

He probably sensed your lack of spelling and grammar skills.

... what do you mean "how does that work?"

    • 49719 is the cooler loop. Right at the front, LHS of that diagram. Return line from rack (LP side) goes to cooler loop on RHS front of car, then back under engine and returns to bottom of tank. 49717M is feed from tank to pump. HP line out of pump is thick rubber, followed by the hard line that runs down to crossmember and runs in parallel (but opposite flow direction) to the LP return line. Nothing goes anywhere near the firewall or interior of car. The closest they get to that is the connections on the rack.
    • Thanks, plan is to drain all fluid tomorrow and do smoke test to find out the leak.   Appreciate your help and want to understand how the system work. So cooling is achieved by the long loop not any rad? The diagram seems to suggest it connects to somewhere inside the cabin and I thought that is a cooler inside firewall. If you look at the diagram it seems to show it connects to something inside firewall. I tried chasing it but not easy unless I take loads off   i am confident pump is good as fluid goes in and it gets soft( steering) but as soon as I turn engine off , loads of bubble come to surface and overflow. When engine is on , fluid level is below minimum but when off it shoots off and thinking it is sucking air in. I suspect aluminium pipe may have a crack line or whole   smoke test with no fluid should be a good start and if needed will remove the pump   In addition, the one going under the engine bay is high pressure line and one directly connecting from pump to resorvoir is return/ low pressure?   finally I searched and suggestion is to use dexron 2 but that is discontinued so bought dexron 3 as all research suggest it is compatible and shouldn’t cause any issues/ blow seals. I bought two liter of dexron 3 motul atf
    • Don't worry about. Just don't try to drive hard enough to make boost and you'll be fine.
    • Yes. This has already been said. It is a loop of hardline in front of the radiator. Because.... the pump is on the LHS and the steering rack hydraulic connections are where they always are on a RHD steering rack....on the RHS. The high pressure line goes down under the engine, along the crossmember, like it does on all Skylines. Don't just throw expensive braided hoses/other kits at it. Work out what is wrong and fix that.
    • Still got the afm on the intake, clamps are shut tight, only loose hose is the one that goes from the j pipe towards the IACV, since it's next to impossible to find a factory hose and the barbs are different sizes (I'm still using clamps on this hose to try and help it seal on the iacv side) I've ordered parts to make up the hotside of the intercooler pipes, I'll plumb it in and see what happens in a few days I suppose The turbo's internally gated, can I just unscrew the tension rod to let the gate open?
