Haha yess its only a photoshop job so it is still is a "4x4" LOL

As for suspension, I am leaning towards getting some king/tein springs with some sway bars on the stock shocks....however i might go the bilstein shocks with tein springs and swaybars....and yes i still got coilovers in mind but its being used as a daily so i dont think it is suggested.

check out D2 suspension, their even an aussie company, i got a set of 4 for 600$ NZ brand new cos they were clearing old stock, should have retailed for around 1500, can adjust dampening, ride hight and spring stiffness, coil overs arnt bad for a daily, mine is, and i drive on some crap roads sometimes, just need to learn where the bumps are and slow down when needed, which is better for your car anyways then just letting soft suspension take the pounding

I went onto JustJap and I can get a set of D2 and BC coilovers for like $1200. If I went for just the springs+shock setup im paying $1750 brand new. Still sourcing around for my best deal, so far I have:

Bilstein Shocks: $1350

King Springs: $400

D2 Coilovers: $1300

BC Coilovers: $1200

Maybe some links to other stuff could help and some more opinions. I also don't mind getting a good quality second hand pair if anyone has upgraded there suspension and wanting to sell there old setup.

As much as I hate King springs, I'd probably be going those and Bilsteins over cheap coilovers. Even if mine were to die, I'd get some slightly lower than stock spring and Bilstein monotube shocks. Cheap coilovers aren't really worth it, I mean who adjusts their suspension on a regular basis?

the advantage of a good coilover is that even if you lower it as far as it goes you still have full travel. if you just use an off the shelf lowered spring with standard spec shocks you will only have a small amount of travel before it bottoms out. this both wears the shock out quicker and gives you a much rougher ride, which then puts more stress on things like engine mounts and pretty much everything else. some coilovers though just reduce the height by lowering where the spring sits on the shock. this is basically the same as using lowered springs. it results in the same reduced travel as lowered springs, but will still usually have more travel than just lowered springs before bottoming out.

you can tell how they lower it just by looking at them. if they simply have thread at the base of the spring and the mounting brackets are fixed then they reduce the travel. tein super streets are like this. if the mounts of coilover have a lock nut up against them then they lower the car by moving the mount and not the spring (the spring is still adjustable though). HKS hipermax D's are like this.

that said, a mate of mine just got a set of (i think) aus spec tein super streets in his 33 and he loves them. he was worried about coilovers being too rough, but he said that they are heaps better than his lowered springs on stock shocks, which were bottoming out.

totally agree with mad082... for once :D

I'm looking at getting a set of HSD HR coilovers soon, or Ksports, i think it'll be worth the $$, and in the long run will save you money... but then again i use my car for drifting and road use aswell.. so i need that extra element.

ive just got lowered king springs and kyb shocks in the 34

How much did that setup cost?

And yes, i think i am going to keep away from lowered springs on stock shocks...the things i have read have just turned me off that idea haha.

The Bilsteins are expensive for a reason. Because they work....Basically coilovers are better than shocks, a $5000 set of coilovers is going to be better than the Bilsteins with king springs, but a $1500 set of coilovers compares to the most basic cheao $600 set of springs and shocks you can find, probily Gabriel base model designs..........

Lots of the Chinese coilovers barley pass ADR certification if they pass at all. look into that.

My set up is KYB with 5zigen springs at rear and stock GTR at the front.

If i had Bilsteins all round id be very happy.

Got some new quotes today...king springs for 320 hehe and the tein springs for 450. The guy wouldn't give me the quotes for the shocks because he didn't know how the mounting was for the shocks, said he wanted to see if its got a fork or eye mounts...the front of the GTS4 is the eye mounts i am guessing with the rears fork?

ive only got stock shocks on the back......the havent died yet lol

i got the springs second hand for a friend, they are actually the minimum legal height here in SA so i cant be done for having my car too low :D

i have to admit when i got them put in it was a much firmer ride, but that was when i had the 18"s on ....now i got 19"s lol definetly can feel those lil bumps in the road a lot more lol

They are not an Aussie company, they are all made in china, they are exactly the same as G4 / K-Sport, only differnce is the colour

lol fair enough...well i think i gotta take mine down for a little drive to a workshop and talk to some people..also probably going to melbourne soon so i might get some quotes from there aswell..hopefully goes all good haha.

turk1, the GTS-4 DOESN'T have the fork mounts at the rear.

When you get quotes you have to ask.

GTR front shocks and springs

GTS-T rear shocks and springs

If you stick your head under the rear of the car you can see the eye mounts on the front and rear.

I can get king springs for about 275 and TEIN's 390

Try find a mate who works at a auto shop, will save you heaps. I can order from the cheapest suppliers and not have to pay postage and everything

It will save you about 400 overall

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
