Smitizen
Well just a quick up date the car has been delivered to Brads to get the cage sorted so hopefully i will have it back in a few weeks to finish painting the inside then it will be full steam ahead re assembling.I will try and up date some picks along the way. Great build up looking very promising and can't wait to see the end results! GO THE GTS-T! BOZ22N
I picked up my clutch today form its little overhaul. I am still retaining the 5 puk button clutch arrangement but went with a different clutch plate for increased strength and a different button material. I got carbonic buttons fitted instead of the ceramic ones and a larger and stronger centre out of a 4.2TD patrol. There was nothing wrong with the old one but its limit is around the 300rwkw mark so instead of killing it i went for a new stronger one to last the distance. My new one is the bottom plate. Also to get some more clamping force we changed the pivot point in the pressure plate and also added another tab on each point to give it some more strength. This is still the same pressure plate that i have been using the last 3 years, just tweaked up and skimmed. Hope you like and i will add more pics as more stuff happens. Risking
this is the cage kit we have for Ryans car. The hoop has been trial fitted and is a really good fir to the b pillars and roof line of the car. Next few days ill get the rear section and front legs done with more photos to come Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/283461-my-r33-gtst-project/page/4/#findComment-4861376 Share on other sites

Risking
It is a bonds kit but not the hoop, the hoop is bent up from a jig I have for the R32/33 I was not entirely happy with the hoop for Ryans car so this is my own hoop and ill be using the one supplied in his kit for my little S13 project which im happy for it to sit a few mm off the sides. The bonds hoop is very good and typically id use it without an issue but its not tight enough for what I wanted for this cage. There was about 8mm each side, this hoop has 0mm each side, it actually requires a rubber mallet to get into place. Dont get me wrong the supplied bonds hoop is great and ill post up the trial fitment of it. the legs they are very tight and supplied by bonds, they require some tweaking in the bender but fit very neatly now. Risking
Ive been slack in putting photos up with Ryan's cage but it has progressed and coming together. Basicly everything is knotched and has been trial fitted then touched up to fit nicely. So now im onto the final assembly of the cage. Sorry Ryan but once there is holes in the floor and plates welded down you know there is no turning back The hoop is a sensational fit inside the car. It literally needed a tap with the rubber mallet to get level. The front legs went in as did the windscreen bar, then it was lowered through the floor to make up the roof diagonal and weld up the tops of all the current bars. The front legs are a nice fit. There is just enough room between them and the pillars to fit thin padding if nessisary. The whole thing was then raised back into position and sat on the plates. You can see how close the roof diagonal is to the actual roof by looking at the shadow. Ryan is tall so we've had to adjust the bends and compromise a few areas to accomodate his height. The rear legs were cut and knotched then the mounting plates welded to the body. Typically id rather go to the towers but its rather difficult on the R33 to get the harness bar mounted within the rules so we went to the arches instead. In this photo you can see the mock up string line for the first diagonal as well. First rear diagonal cut and in place. Here is an artists impression of what still has to go into the cage Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/283461-my-r33-gtst-project/page/4/#findComment-4882140 Share on other sites

BOZ22N
Thanks for the kind words guys. Chris, it went well mate Brad has been putting heaps of thought into this one to accommodate for my height. I sat in the passenger seat of Jays new car and my head was hitting every where (but that seat could be lowered another 80mm or so). Then when I sat in mine you could appreciate the little extra bits that will make my cage usable for me . All things going well it will be back in my shed next Sunday night if not it will be the following weekend. Then I will be flat out through Nov and the start of Dec, and I might try to get it out for a sly track day before Santa comes. It was good to see ya all yesterday, we will all have to sign up for heaps of track time in 2010 hell yer Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/283461-my-r33-gtst-project/page/4/#findComment-4887331 Share on other sites
Risking
well here you go Ryan..... In these photos its basicly finished besides the final weld clean up and welding the cage onto the bases. (its left loose on the bases to tidy up the welds with a small sander just to make sure they are neat as can be) ALOT of extra work has gone into this cage to accomodate the height needed. If you look closely at the photos you will see just how close the roof area bars are to the original body work. The front leg supports cant get any tighter nor could the roof diagonal or main hoop. There is just enough clearance for padding on the front legs and windscreen bar. The harness bar in the rear has nice little lugs that I machined up and welded in to suit the eyelets. BOZ22N
Holy crap that looks sweet . You have out done your self Brad, the work man ship of the cage is second to none. The wife and i have made a few trips down to look at the progress and believe me the 7 hr round trip is worth it. I can not wait to get back to work on it and get it finished. A big thanks goes out to you Brad for all the hard work that has gone into this cage to squeeze a 6 3" person into a japanese car with plenty of room around my helmet, cheers mate.
