The rears in the Green R30 are stuffed. Checking out on best way to R&R.

In the workshop manual the first thing it says to do is, "remove rear seat assembly". Do you have to take the seat out to get the parcel shelf out? The shelf in Goldie is very brittle and broken. Greenies shelf is intact and I dont want to risk breaking it.

Any advice will be greatlly appreciated.

Hi,

There's a very helpful post (with pictures) here: http://forum.r31skylineclub.com/index.php?topic=133876.0 The rear seat sits against the edge of the shelf. I'd say there's much less chance of damaging the shelf if the seat is removed first.

From memory there are 2 things that made changing out the rear struts in the R30 difficult;

1. not damaging the parcel shelf (remove the rear seat, and the c-pillar trim)

2. Getting a good grip on the nuts :( (on the top mount!) - they were tight, and had a shallow hex. So they were hard to keep a socket aligned well.

The DR30 was easier than the MR, as it has inspection covers above the upper mount for the electrics to hide under.

pity you dont have a hatchback! so easy its not funny... takes 10 minutes each side, just take off the speaker cover, nuts away....

I had two but they went to the BIG wrecker in the sky.
