from what i heard that's how Nissan Dealer do their Transmission service.

Even when i call the dealer here they said you probably only need 1 as they just drain from the pan and you won't be able to get all the oil left in Torque converter.

Hi, recently purchased 2006 v35 with a 5spd auto.

Always do my own oil changes etc,but never owned an auto before.

After some advice,tips etc on how best to do the auto trans oil

My local Nissan dealer wants $60 for 5 lts, of matic J not bad!.

After reading post it seems I need 10.3lts.

I plan to drain trans,then remove pan inspect clean and replace.

But not sure how much oil I'm going to need on hand.

I haven't looked yet, but talking with others it seems there is no refill plug,is this correct?.

should I drain etc and refill through dipstick tube?.

Any and all advise welcome,

As far as I know.. all Auto transmissions are filled via the dipstick tube.

Just dropping the pan and re-filling will only replace about half of the fluid in the transmission, so a 5L container will be close to all you need.

The rest of the fluid will be sitting in the torque converter, with some in the valve body and cooler lines.

A pan drain/refill is fine if you do regular changes as it keeps the fluid fairly fresh.

But if it hasn't had a fluid change for 100,000km or so, you might want to consider doing a full flush

To do a full fluid change, you will need 10+L and you will either need to take it to a transmission shop, who will have the equipment to do it. or use one of the 'DYI' methods by removing the cooler return lines.

just put car on ramps and dropped the oil.

so far only 4+L has come out,

typical burnt smell.

But I would just run the car in short bursts with the cooler line disconnected and then top up the transmission in between, rather than hoping you can 'keep up', while the fluid gets pumped out with a running engine. Also allows you to shift through the gears while the engine is running to ensure the valve body is flushed more thoroughly.

hello every one, :) my 2002 stagea 250rs Four (VQ25DD) 5spd auto....just got a freash wof and and service the other day., shes rather mature at 173000kms on the clock but Going Great !!! just replaced the standard oil with full synthetic 0-40 yesterday 5l of new juice and took her out for a drive to auckland today clocked over another 500kms and she was still begging for more seems the change to full synthetic has benefited the car greatly with fuel economy and power., but maybe some people have other thoughts ., in my opinon full synthetic all the way

    • Thanks for your insight, it being basically useless will impact my decision for sure. I thought it may help the engine breath better I guess. But then again, I have also been told that tuning an RB20DE is also not worth it. Exactly, we follow EU Regulations. There is a bit more leeway on older vehicles. My Porsche 924 came without a cat from factory and managed to pass, they still mentioned that I have quite high emissions on it though.

This is the sensible thing to do and the opposite of what I was alluding you were doing. I may have seen too much outrage and hate being fueled on the internet and it has made me a somewhat cynical old man. Sometimes it is easy to forget that there are real people behind websites and accounts. In my defence, CarExpert and CarExplore do read quite similarly at a glance.     • Don't bother. The poor little RB20 doesn't make enough gas flow to challenge the flow capabilities of even the littlest cat, and you won't make any extra power, and all you'll do it soot up your rear bumper. Plus....is Malta not runing under Euro regs?
    • Hey Daniel, sorry to hear that and thanks for posting up for us at a really hard time I only knew SmoothLine through the forums, we never met as we are based in different states, but when he was most active on here he was quite a while back so not many of the current crowd might remember him. I am pretty sure he was active in the Queensland SQU club but that is defunct now too (times are changing and we are all getting older). Farewell SmoothLine!    
    • Turns out depending on whether the car was equipped with TCS or not there are different signals coming to the dash, meaning there are different speedo clusters.  Wired in a speedo calibrator box from aliexpress and now works fine.
