Oh right, well i had one all designed up ready to be made over 12months ago, it's still on the to-do list, and seeing as i dont have a suitable car/engine to put it on i can't do any testing. Add to that it'd cost close to 2k with the spline drive gears.

However if there were people interested then i'd look at getting it produced.

Has any one considered the fact that some one has sent an N1 pump to china and got them copied and thats what you are buying

I have a friend with a workshop that specialises in Nissan and he was telling me whats been done

Also consider the fact that all of a sudden N1 blocks are showing up all over the place as well

He was telling me that these are chinese copies as well

yes ive heard about the copied blocks...didn't consider the N1 pumps though. Now that i have a product i know i can rely on i will never buy another N1 pump.

Yeah makes you think doesnt it

In reality pumps are more likey to be copied than blocks

Much easier to produce

I've got absolutely no issue with n1 blocks being manufactured in china, in fact I would very much welcome it.

nissan has not been casting n1 blocks for at least 5 years and globally all old stock has pretty much disappeared.

If Nissan is going not going to supply new blocks where will we get them from? Good luck to anyone that has gone to the effort of casting them, I'll take 5.

Id go to the extra expense of properly balancing the engine and running an ATI balancer than forking out $2500 on an N1. Im yet to crack an 05U thats been properly built.

But everone has different ideas i suppose.

Ive looked into getting blocks cast, havnt given up on it, but not looking at N1 (24U) blocks, going RRR blocks instead.

The production cost isnt cheap, but luckily i know a place that owe me a huge favour.

Cast or billet? For billet it costs between 10-15k for the 1st and 8-10k there after, depending if you want it to have the factory shape on the outside or not.

We have a large machine shop here (a small section of it actually used to be an engine reconditioning shop)

Im an engineer at an (ductile) iron foundry. I do the majority of product design, tooling, process improvement etc. so CAD/CAM is no problem

Its not cost effective to have one of our cnc's tied up doing tooling so we usually outsource that component (still trying to get my own)

Limited to 12-13tonne max. per pour

Aftermarket blocks would be awesome!

But as shane said, Billet...super exxy!

A chinese casted iron block would be great...so long as its decent quality...no doubt would come out cheaper then something from here. I guess ideally, a casted block in china then final machining here in Oz.

Chinese cast iron blocks are not a nice thing from those I've seen, the same with cylinder heads. There are copies of the Dart Chev blocks coming from China now and they look good but the hardness just isn't there and the geometry apparently isn't great. There's a long thread about them on speedtalk at the moment.

Some stuff from China is really good, including many of the cheaper US branded conrods but a block is a lot more complex item. There are even fake ARP bolts being made there, it's good to know that the Spool rods run genuine ARP bolts, they arrive in the ARP packet separate to the rods. Some other rods around have bolts that look a little suss, they have ARP stamped on the head but not the finish you would expect on the rest of the bolt or no brand at all.

    • Hi all. I am aware there is lots of discussions about jacking points, where to lift the car and what not. But as usual just a lot of "in my opinion" and nothing definitive, and everyone does it in a different way. I want to hear from some experienced people on which points on the car it's okay/safe/recommended to lift the car using a four point hoist/lift. I will attach some images of my underbody. Sills are largely okayish, the driver side jacking point is pretty mangled though and it looks like the underfloor is slightly pushed in too, but I might be wrong. In the German Skyline forum, the consensus is to use the sidemember chassis rails in the front and the rear subframe? bushing in the rear. I know the manual says to never use the sidemember for loading but lots of folk do it and it was definitely done on my car too as they are slightly bent too. Based on the images, what points do I use to not make the already present damage worse? I'd use wood or rubber blocks to spread the load across a bigger area of course.     • Have you put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on and verified your oil pressure?   Noise being on the block, on exhaust side, how high up the block does it seem to be? It could be the VCT system getting cranky, especially if it's mainly at idle, and when warm, as that'll be your lowest point for oil pressure. Could be showing that oil passages / VCT solenoid are blocking.
    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
