anyone know any sydney stores that sells radiator hoses for all sorts of cars ? Not keen on paying $110 for genuine nissan top/bottom hose when I can get the reinforeced Gates hoses from ebay for the same price.

I'm taking the radiator out next few days and getting it professionally cleaned so would like to replace hoses while I'm at it .. The factory hoses still look OK (not leaking) but I won't be able to take them off the spouts without cutting as they won't budge after 10 years ..

god what a pain in the ass .. Repco sell the Gates Racing for about $60 (top and bottom) or $70 with new clamps included .. BUT they gotta order them in and that takes 5-10 working days. WTF ? If you order anything from Nissan it's there next day doesn't matter which state it's coming from.. GHEYEEEEYEYEYEYEYEYEEYE.

most of the stuff i order from my local repco is here that afternoon (if ordered on my way to work), and we nearly 200km from brizzy.

but then it may be something that is sent out using the companies preffered courier so they can't just have a same day courier turn up and get it.

however you should be able to get the old ones off pretty easily even if they haven't been taken off since new. just simply remove the clamps and twist them back and forth until they let go. or get a plastic knife and slide it under the hose and move around the hose until it loosens up a bit. i have never had any issues taking hoses off cars. infact i took a radiator hose off my old commodore that hadn't been removed in probably 10 years (the car hadn't only been started about 3 times in the last 5 years for that matter). i just did the twist trick.

hoses gotta be changed anyway ..they're looking a bit tired. I've ordered the gates racing ones from repco ...came to $90 all up with clamps and $20 delivery fee (crock of shit). The worst thing is apparently they were selling these hoses on a special recently for $30 and had stock in most stores and now they're all out... perfect timing as usual :)

Hopefully they don't take "5-10 days" like they said ..that would just suck.

How is this possible...... you posted tomorrow morning??????

Hahaha yeah..... anyway I was gonna say, I remember going to autobarn about a month ago to get top radiator hose... the guy said he couldn't put in part numbers for skylines cause it's an import, but he knew his shit.... he went out the back, came back with one exactly the same size, shape, and bend. I recall it was around $12?

    • No-one in Aus/NZ would pay that much, because they remember when a turbo Skyline/Silvia was a cheap but awesome alternative to the mediocre shit sold here locally at the time. I'm sure over in USA there are enough trust fund kids who will have their R34 GTR, whatever the cost
    • I am stuck with enthusiast and very unhappy, even though Lumley, Shannons and Famous are all options, they all require a lock up garage, and my situation (basically a walled off compound from the street) is insufficient because the car is under a carport. I'm confident to resolve the situation I need to build a roller door with fascia in-front of my roller gate which is a solid opaque metal rolling gate. In any other universe moving the roller door 2 meters in-front of the garage door would still constitute the same amount of security but oh no. My insurance rates suck to the point of when I joined a market research for Enthusiast they were all surprised that I paid about 2-3x what other people were paying with Enthusiast when I asked them why their rates were so high. If I lie about having a garage, I save like $10 a month with enthusiast. (It's about $2600 p.a for 5000km of driving for a very unsustainable agreed value). Lumley has terrible reviews but @Duncan made me consider calling them when renew time came up - but their horrible reviews plus Christmas time made me... forget.
    • Not far. If all you want to do is know that they will reciprocate and move oil around a tiny bit, then a metre or so is all you need. Half metre fore and aft is enough.
    • That's the spirit!
    • It's fine. Basically if it has seized (eg due to moisture/rust in the bores) it will either break free on the starter or it won't turn....then you'll know it is freed up If it turns and doesn't start (reasonably likely) you will need to troubleshoot but most likely issue is a seized injector from moisture; same if it starts but missfires. Anything else could have happened (eg mice nibbling electricals) but the only way to find out is to close your eyes and hit the key I'd also change the fuel filter again after a few minutes of running as it may catch a heap of crap on first start
