BASHO
I can't see jack on the radio or aircon info control panels in the daytime , it's driving me nuts, they both light up so it's not the fuse but they're dimmer than a 2 day old cretin. I can't find a dimmer switch for the dash lights anywhere, its not on the lights control stalk or a separate one in the dash near the trip reset stalk IFiIK where the damn thing is. It's a 98 R34gt-T can anyone help ? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/284636-cluster-dimmer-r34/ Share on other sites
jrm
From what I understand, R34's don't have a dimmer switch - though I believe some compliance places do fit them during compliance Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/284636-cluster-dimmer-r34/#findComment-4783388 Share on other sites
Victory
Normally when your headlights are on the air con and other dash lights are dimmed automatically. Could it be that when they complienced your car they changed the headlights and the dash now thinks the lights are on all of the time and have the dim setting as a result. How you fix this is another question - just another option to investigate. Thanks for that, when the lights are on I can actualy see the functions (just), they dont appear to backlight atall in normal daytime driving they're hopeless, do you know if they are supposed to, the headlights are zenon something ? and appear stock but who knows , it's in having a bit of a suspension check and underneath bolts tighten at Auto-tech today so I'll ask the guys and see what they know when I pick it up. some days I know eveything, some days I know nothing, if only I could remember which is which. mad082
the easiest way to test victory's theory is to turn the key to ON at night, then while looking at the lights, turn the lights on. if the lights in the aircon, etc, don't dim then you know that is the problem. if they do, then you know there is something else going on. also not all cars get dimmers fitted when they are complied. my r33 never had one, and neither did my 180sx. the ones that i have seen that have had them fitted are the stalk type. they have a post that sticks out with a knob on it (unlike the factory fitted ones that are a roller type). i have seen them located anywhere from either side of the dash near the base of the steering column to down near the fuse panel on either side of the steering column. Nic_A31
Each component has a wire you can cut to kill the dimming. Just pull up a wiring diagram, the wires from each component will run back to the same point. I cut the ill. trigger wire on the clock in my Maxima so its always fully illuminated when I drive with my headlights on. BASHO
Well problem solved, asked Gavin at Auto-tech, there is no dimmer and the dash lights only come on with the main lights when you're using them at night, I gotta say if this is the worst problerm I'm gonna be have I'll be very happy. If I can find a wiring diagram I'll hoy it to an auto sparks and see if they can do anything without to much hassle if it's a drama I just aint going there. Thanks for the replys guys Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/284636-cluster-dimmer-r34/#findComment-4791808 Share on other sites
