have a look at proengines RB30 packages. If I was doing a 30, I would be getting it from greg no doubt. he's built a number of engines for friends and people that I have referred to him and they have all been happy. he's a smart guy and charges fair rates for his standard of work. considering that for about $8000 you can have a built 30 bottom end complete with his own sump adapter ready to go it's not bad value. I would then look at one of those endyn or bullet CNC heads (go the OS valves on the 30 for sure). get that sent to greg too, decide on cams, add some valve springs etc and get him to bolt the whole thing together. around $12-$14K would see you with a complete top notch forged, 2630 with a sweet head. bolt on a set of 2530s and enjoy 400awkw and very decent response.

a top notch 26 will work out about the same price.

a top notch HKS or tomei 2.8 about the same price too.

$15,000 is what it will realistically cost to get a top level GTR engine no matter what the capacity.

This post and the one that preceeded it should be read by anyone considering in going from standard bore/stroke to a stroker kit of some sort. Great info and explanation.

Don't know if this idea is a silly one but .

Is there any oxygen in having a spacer plate made up fitted and bore the whole lot for thin walled liners ?

If the idea flew you could keep your block number and retain its piston oil squirters , do the usual with an RB30 crank and rods and have your three liters ?

Thoughts , cheers A .

sounds pretty much like a os giken rb30 set up

dont waste your money on stroker kits they are stupid expensive and the rb30 is better way to go unless you go the os giken 3L kit. I wish i went a RIPS rb30 and saved the money back when i built my jun 2.7l stroker motor. The stroker kit (just crank, rods and pistons) is worth as much as a complete built bottom end from RIPS which is complete and ready to go from what i can tell and is proven to hold over 1200hp.

for your goals i would save alot of money and have a better setup using a rb30 and a t04z, it will be perfect for 430awkw and have decent response too.

so your saying i should have charged you 10k for my rb30e :)

Thanks Richard and others for your advise. I guess I will have to get the old excel spread sheet out and start doing shopping lists for setups in each class and then start weighing up pros and cons.

I guess what makes it hard to choose a direction is when a reputable person who knows their stuff says one one and then an equal has taken a completely different stance which makes you kinda question which one would be more applicable.

I'm trying to stick to facts and see results black and white, but that in itself is hard. After having looked at all the dyno results there's not alot of 2.8L that stand out yet Richard your exp in Japanese says other wise plus you have the added bonus of haven been in a RB30/26 to compare.

Then the notion of having a built RB26 with the right head components etc purpose built for response sounds excellent.

Its hard to pick a line atm and go for it.

Any details or build thread on that GT block 26 circuit car?

Cheers

Rob

    • Middle seat good for a slab of beer or Esky for a road trip. 2x kids, means 1x free seat lol.
    • So we have most the interior back in, and for the first time with one OEM speaker hooked up. The 31 is running, driving and now tunes!!! Hahaha yet another step for the sub that sat 10m under for two weeks!!! unbelievable really 👌 lots of love work and not giving up on her. Seen so many youngsters part way less, and in way better condition. I’m stubborn, thinking another problem is just a hurdle to overcome, One at a time. IMG_9277.mov
    • That is correct. I'm using a modified ABS ring and a ZF speed sensor on my rear diff for speed input. I'm running a Haltech ecu.
    • Been busy with the newborn. We originally thought we were going to go for a third, but we're good with two lol. He's starting to actually sleep now so I've had some energy to work on the car. It's been parked away in the garage since late November due to winter.  I went ahead and redid all my head oil drains. I originally had my front and rear head drain going into the same pipe but have since split them up. I also added an Ethanol content sensor to get ready to run E85 this summer. Tossed it on my return line. Sensor sits nicely under my intake manifold.    I also have a lot of parts that came in for my rear end. I'll be swapping over to a 3.3 final drive and doing the GK teck anti squat mod. While the rear subframe is off, I'll also change every bushing. We're planning on buying another house soon with the condition that I get at a minimum a 2 door garage, so I'll wait to have more room for this. Now onto the strange things that recently happened... After changing the lower rad hose (It had been sitting in my cabinet for well over a year and was the last hose I had to replace), I let the car idle in the garage to bleed my coolant. After running for a few minutes, it started missing. Got much worst within a minute or two and then stalled and would not restart. My crank sensor decided to crap itself. No damage, no explanation, just died. I went ahead and replaced it with another ZF sensor but the heavier duty stainless model with a shield. Tossed that in and started right up. Has anyone else seen this? I hate when things fail without cause. Luckily this was a blessing in disguise... This lead me to recheck my timing. It seems I may have had a beer or two the last time I had set my TDC angle as I was off exactly 5 degrees... I miscounted a line haha. I was running 5 degrees less then commanded. It's a little embarrassing but helps explain why my dyno operator seemed to think I should be making more then 478rwkws.
    • Sharing results from recent Liberty Walk R35 GTR, since they are still considered as somesort of a V36 Skyline. We do them turbos too. This are high flowed SS-1 models with ball bearing conversion done.  Car have managed to pull 485awkws @ 20Psi so far pushing limitations of factory built engine. The build list for R35 GTR enthusiasts as follow : HyperGear high flowed stock turbos in SS1 (G25-660 specs) Custom titanium intake pipes. Vspec performance titanium front pipes.
