Intercooler Anyones Thoughts

The stock SMIC is a fairly efficient piece of equipment.

Unless you plan to up your boost in the near future, spend your money elsewhere.

Other than that, you can install one for cosmetic effect and if you end up increasing your boost later on, it's there.

but if i install one and keep it stock boost will the car run abit better then having a smic

perfomance-wise told me it would run abit better and that the more air flow the safer ?

I would stick with the stock one mate.

Installing an aftermarket cooler will actually make the engine a little less responsive due to the longer pipework.

thanks its all interesting to hear, because other guys as i said in a previouse post, well they said my car might even gain 1 pound boost and it would run alittle bit better, they said it might lag a tiny but but you wont notice ?

I wouldn't do it. Adds a lot of extra piping on RB25's because their turbo outlet and throttle body are both on the same side so lots of piping wen u add a front mount unless U get a forward facing plenum.

i just like the look of them thats all, so it will not give me any gain wat so ever if im running stock boost ?

No gain what so ever, been stated a few times now.

Just longer piping, potentially less responsive.

ok then so that has cancelled out my plans 99.5 % lol

its just sometimes when my car is boosting on the freeway i dont get much pull and a mechanic said its prob coz your smic is heatsoked ?

You're running a stock car... Of course its not going to have serious pull.

ohh so nothing is wrong ok kool

thanks for that im new to the scene sorry about the ameture questions

when im at a set of lights there is pullback but when on a freeway just a tiny bit and just picks up speed fast, a mechanic told me it wasnt pulling hard because smic was heat soked

but thanks for clearing that up i didnt know !

drop it down to 3rd on the freeway and see if it pulls better.

"IF" it is getting heat soaked you would probably be better off putting some better ducting and a little water mist sprayer in front of the SMIC then going a big front mount on a completely stock car.

yer i dunno coz i was planning on nistuning the car later on so i guess i could get fmic now and worry bout rest later?

Just a thought, but assuming you already have exhaust and air filter upgrades, You would be better off buying an boost controller next, install & up the boost a little bit when you get it tuned. Then when your used to that and you want even more boost, upgrade to a FMIC then retune.

Theres plenty more mods you can do before the SMIC will need upgrading.

Im glad you said "potentially" ;)

I put a Blitz LM on my R33, running R32 actuator and as far as i can feel it didnt make any difference at all. Marginally shorter piping than your average hybrid piping though. But still longer than SMIC clearly.

My R34 SMIC on my R33 got heatsoaked to the point it would burn my hand if i touched the hot side, and only marginally cooler after a short spirited drive. And it just felt shithouse. So i opted for the front mount. Never looked back.

Yeah no way your SMIC would be getting 'heatsoaked' if you are driving at 100km/h or so already.

Just put're in 3rd gear, RB25DET GB+Diff goes up to 160km/h or so in third and you should feel a bit of pull but I think stock you'll only really feel pushed in the seat in 2nd?

Personally though, as long as at some point you may be putting the boost up or maybe you just want the looks or the fun of modifying the car, I would just do it. Any cons produced by longer piping would probably be neglible and at least it's done which may motivate you to do more to the car.

yer just anotherthing if i dont have any cold air intakes or pod is having a fmic still considered unroadworthy in victoria ?
