Yes, to do with the number of clutch packs on the forward gears from memory, the GTt has extra due to more torque.

So thus making the non-turbo auto weaker than the turbo auto??

So is there a difference in the manual 5spd gear boxes between the turbo and non turbo R34's??

Not weaker, just makes it flare much easier. The 5spd in the GT is very similar to the RB20DET manual, the 5spd GTt box is much more awesome, moreso than the R33 GTSt box

You're right about the flaring ~_~

Even with modifed R34's the GTt one flares if it's not got a good bit of heat in it, that's why I like summer...not so long to get things up to temp (but luck out with power dropping a bit) I recently changed my gearbox oil over to some Valvoline stuff that is designed for Commodore Taxi slush-boxes and gained some extra friction on changes. Good as gold again.

Yes they are. 4 and 2 spot calipers vs 2 and 1 spot calipers. Also rotor sizes are different. R34 25GT Sedan is different again. An R34 GTV however has the GTT Brakes, though the GTV is also a GTT with an RB25DE NEO pretty much.

I haven't done a transmission service since I bought the car (Jan 07) only done 15,000kms in that time however and bought it with 105,000kms. Given that it never had the 100,000 km service done I hardly think the transmission has received a service in a long while in Japan... Any recommendations for where to take it for a service? I originally contacted Aspley Auto's about service and also shift kit, but they insist on driving it first to see how bad the flaring is, ie. whether a shift kit is going to fix or worsen the problem. They're in north side though which is rather inconvenient for me :S

pretty much identical, the differences are minimal we use the 34 boxes as they are generally lower km items..

    • I don’t really have any ideas how to set the timing on the CAS 😂, sounds like the top, sounds like it maybe misfiring as well as ticking,  got the box sorted 😌, must of been a air bubble on the clutch side
    • Use a 2' length of hose (that's 2 foot, not 2 inches) as a stethoscope to localise the source of the ticking. From cam covers? From exhaust or turbo manifold gasket? From injectors? From lower down in the engine? Etc. Use a timing light to set the timing. Put Redline Lightweight Shockproof in the box. It's not the very best thing for the box, but it will take a box that refuses to engage a gear with other oil, and make it engage a gear. I had to put it in when I installed the R33 box I have in my car. It would not select ANY gear when running. Smurf jizz made it work. That was >10 years ago and I still use it. I'm stuck with it now. Failing that - rebuild the box.
    • Well done Duncan. The fuel tank bulkhead lid is also in great condition (some of mine were stuffed). These are now out of production and good ones like that are becoming hard to come by.
    • Wow that's a steal, you've done well there.
