hey guys, ive got a R33 gtst S1. im looking to start modifying the engine to try gain a bit more usable hp, just really unsure on where to start, what to get and where i can get it and cost of course.

if people could perhaps post up the sort of things i should be looking into upgrading that isnt going to kill my wallet and give me a bit more power without stressing the engine that'd be great.

cheers =]

Have a read at this basic guide on moding a RB25DET. LINK

Basically for power, turbo back exhaust should be the 1st upgrade, followed up a intake upgrade, then inter-cooler & boost controller & some kind of engine management.

Intake, Exhaust and Intercooler upgrade matched to a Nistune (Z32) ECU update will give very good performance gains at a good price and wont kill the bank or the car.

How about an Electronic boost controller also? ;)

sorry guys umm this is basically what ive got atm.

turbo back 3inch? exhaust its big and loud anyway

boosted to 10psi with a turbosmart boost tee (doesnt really like it alot so i never actually boost it that high)

Fmic

pod filter

a/m Fuel pump

Short Shifter kit (wont make it faster but its still an upgrade =P)

thats bout it, other than that she's a rock :D

not really sure on my budget, im not rich so cheapish but still decent would be nice lol. to give you an idea im a 3rd yr apprentice mechanic so not really on the big bucks.. im not so much into increasing my top end as im not into the whole go super fast idea lol, i'd prefer to look after my engine, never really rev over 3-1/2>4grand tops before changing, i'd much rather more low/mid range power which would be super usable to me.

Moving beyond the limit's of the factory turbo is going to start costing over the $1000 mark and without getting the proper supporting mod's 260hp running the stock turbo at 12 psi will be much better to drive than 300hp upgraded turbo running low boost on the street. I'd suggest getting a fuel pump next as the stock one's are getting old and your power would be reasonably higher than what is offered at stock with the current upgrades.

Take care of the handling and braking before power ups.

From what I can tell from his subsequent posts, he's looking for a bit more torque in the low end (2k-4k rpm). I'm not really sure what you do to get that, besides upping the capacity of the engine or adding more cylinders. :)

[but then again I know shite all about engines :(]

bigger turbo, injectors, coilpacks, ecu.

How is that going to give him more torque down low?

And why would you get new coilpacks if they stockers aren't stuffed?

If you want more torque down low, then really, build a cheap 3L  Being an apprentice mechanic you should be able to do it yourself.

It's going to increase the torque down low and across the bandwidth, use some cam gear's effectively the power should come on earlier (TRUST, HKS or OS GIKEN). Changing coilpack's is a good idea with the age of nissan skylines now, very few set's would be operating to there maximum potential and aftermarket one's are cheap and good value. Building a 3 litre properly without using budget or used part's will not see any change from $5,000 so that sort of cancel's out cheap performance upgrade. In a perfect world stroking her would be sweet and achieve that torque goal.

Good luck with the upgrades dude, hopefully you have obtained some good advice.
