ok, to begin with excuse my ignorance cause i have NFI when it comes to suspension. and many other things ;)

I went to have a rego check done for my 32 on the weekend and the guy said that my front right upper control arm needed replacing.

What i want to know is

- Are "control" arms and "camber" arms the same thing, except camber arms give you adjustment?

- I do a few track days a year, but the plan is to keep the car as stock as possible, i.e no coilovers/lowering. So should i go stock again?

- I think i have seen kits from nismo that replace the worn parts on the stock arms - Am i imagining this:-) ?

If I'm not imagining this, is it a good option?

- are there down sides to going adjustable such as different steering feel, knocks, noises vibrations?

Cheers

Bobby

Hey Mate ,

I had the very same problem , Car started to squeak a bit , took it down to CenterLine in Melbourne.

Spoke to Chris ( Awesome group of guy's to deal with by the way) and we decided that it was time to replace every bush, includes new sub frame bushes, lockbar, new coilovers ect....

I do plan on making a tread about the build.

Anyway this may help you to do with bushes ect...

Thanks guys,

I'm leaning towards OEM replacements.

Adriel, in your attachment you had the front upper control arms with a 250.00x2 next to the picture. Is that the price you got for the stock arms?

cheers

I havent heard them referred to as camber arms, but if you get an adjustable control arms (or replace the bushes in the standard arm with adjustable ones) you will get more adjustability. No shit eh? This is important if you're lowering the car, but you'll probably be able to get the alignment right without them at stock ride height. If you get adjustable bushes or adjustable arms with neoprene/nolathane/whatever bushes, the only downside is that they need to be greased around once a year or they get squeaky. If you were to get rose jointed arms then they will increase harshness and wear out much more quickly (probably not legal for the street anyway).

If the nismo ones are rubber they shouldnt squeak so that sounds like a good option, tho 8 x 48 is 384 so maybe get a price for whiteline adjustables to see how it compares. The arms themselves dont wear out at all so no need to replace the whole arm.

Excellent, thanks Adam.

I'm leaning towards the NISMO items more and more. Yep they're a little more expensive but one of my goals as stated is really to keep the car as stock as possible. There's no doubt i can benifit from adjustables but it will take away from the originalness of the car (if thats a word)

The whiteline one's I've found for around $260 a set, but not sure if a set is one side or both.

Yeah they were the prices i was quoted.

I ended up going with these

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I have tried 2 brands of those dog bone aka midori type arms and one set lasted a little bit till I sold it, the other set one bent after 1 trackday and the bearings failed after 2 trackdays and about 800 road kms... they will fail sooner rather than later AND even worse the don't give all that much neg camber. though you could get more by taking out the two ends and cutting their rods a bit shorter as one set of mine actually touched in the middle with still more room before they'd be touching the centre 'cuff'.

they are cheap, and cheap for a reason. :D

bobby, probably the most suitable option for you is to get a set of replacement R32 GTR front upper control arm bushes from whiteline. you can just get standard bushes or some adjustable bushes that will give a little adjustment to your wheel aligner. the adjustable idea is not a bad one. and no they wont really add any NVH to your car. ;)

Only time will tell, What do you think of the ones in the group buy?

I second the whiteline bushes, I run them in both my cars, and being replacement bushes makes them street legal IIRC, where a replacement arm(eg. cusco) would not be. Similar cost to OEM bushes and you can get adjustment, around 220 Trade price. http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_detail...t_number=KCA336

bobby I ran the nismo bushes for years because that's all I was allowed to run. If you want to stay stockish (and I'm glad you do) they are a very good option.

I now run the whiteline adjustable bushes and they give me extra camber. But they flog out very quickly with race use (3-4 races only), probably OK for street

Thanks for the heads up :D

do you mean the new type ones that pivot in the centre that UAS is selling? they look to be a good design. I haven't used any yet so can't comment on how well they last or not but I would think they will be a good thing. up till now the only other decent option was the noltec arms, the big chunky ones that slide in an out. they take urethane bushes and have grease nipples at both ends so you can lube them up as needed. they are the only ones I've had that lasted and had good adjustment. but I don't think they are being made anymore. the old adjustable nismo ones look to be the same design.

hey zardos

any chance you can gimme a price on replacing every bush in the car??

As Duncan said it is not cheap, Plus we found that some bushes seem to be still in good condition, so we did not replace them.

I got most of my bushes through a friend who works a Nissan.

I have to go through my invoices and tally it up for you.

I'll try and do this tomorrow.

    • So we have most the interior back in, and for the first time with one OEM speaker hooked up. The 31 is running, driving and now tunes!!! Hahaha yet another step for the sub that sat 10m under for two weeks!!! unbelievable really 👌 lots of love work and not giving up on her. Seen so many youngsters part way less, and in way better condition. I’m stubborn, thinking another problem is just a hurdle to overcome, One at a time. IMG_9277.mov
    • That is correct. I'm using a modified ABS ring and a ZF speed sensor on my rear diff for speed input. I'm running a Haltech ecu.
    • Been busy with the newborn. We originally thought we were going to go for a third, but we're good with two lol. He's starting to actually sleep now so I've had some energy to work on the car. It's been parked away in the garage since late November due to winter.  I went ahead and redid all my head oil drains. I originally had my front and rear head drain going into the same pipe but have since split them up. I also added an Ethanol content sensor to get ready to run E85 this summer. Tossed it on my return line. Sensor sits nicely under my intake manifold.    I also have a lot of parts that came in for my rear end. I'll be swapping over to a 3.3 final drive and doing the GK teck anti squat mod. While the rear subframe is off, I'll also change every bushing. We're planning on buying another house soon with the condition that I get at a minimum a 2 door garage, so I'll wait to have more room for this. Now onto the strange things that recently happened... After changing the lower rad hose (It had been sitting in my cabinet for well over a year and was the last hose I had to replace), I let the car idle in the garage to bleed my coolant. After running for a few minutes, it started missing. Got much worst within a minute or two and then stalled and would not restart. My crank sensor decided to crap itself. No damage, no explanation, just died. I went ahead and replaced it with another ZF sensor but the heavier duty stainless model with a shield. Tossed that in and started right up. Has anyone else seen this? I hate when things fail without cause. Luckily this was a blessing in disguise... This lead me to recheck my timing. It seems I may have had a beer or two the last time I had set my TDC angle as I was off exactly 5 degrees... I miscounted a line haha. I was running 5 degrees less then commanded. It's a little embarrassing but helps explain why my dyno operator seemed to think I should be making more then 478rwkws.
    • Sharing results from recent Liberty Walk R35 GTR, since they are still considered as somesort of a V36 Skyline. We do them turbos too. This are high flowed SS-1 models with ball bearing conversion done.  Car have managed to pull 485awkws @ 20Psi so far pushing limitations of factory built engine. The build list for R35 GTR enthusiasts as follow : HyperGear high flowed stock turbos in SS1 (G25-660 specs) Custom titanium intake pipes. Vspec performance titanium front pipes. Vspec performance 4" titanium exhaust. Upgrade fuel pumps. 1200cc injectors. Ignition coilpacks Hks intake plenum. Hks intercooler piping. Greddy intercooler. Greddy bovs. Top-secret coolant reservoir. Emtron ecu. Straight E85. Built gear box.
    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
