This isn't a defect story or a whine but perhaps a warning of what not too say. I recently got pulled over and regency defected. I also got fined $203 big ones and 1 demerit point for; "non compliance with vehicle standards". What this means is, that if you knowingly drive your car on the road and you know it's defectable, you can get fined.

The cop was going around pointing out things that were defectable x2, "oil leaks" and no drivers side mirror. I said, i know there's no mirror, i just have to wait untill next pay. That warranted him; going through the book, calling up the area supervisor (or something like that) to get the proper code and then fining me. It took a little while but he managed to get all the paperwork filled out. So, if any cop ever asks you if you knew something was like that, say "no i have no idea" and save yourself some aggravation and some loot.

since when do you get demerit points for defects?? :D

most of the time this wont work either. Most cops will first ask you to tell them what mods you have and if you stay quiet or pretend you dont know anything they will fine you for not cooperating or lying or some shit and give you a criminal record and give you a hefty fine which almost happened to me one time...

the moment cop ask you to pop the bonnet you're pretty much screwed no matter what... it doesnt matter if you're honest and cooperate or stay quiet and act stupid...

gayness.. i don't have that problem as yet, mines all stock other than pod filter which is secured and has been thro regency as is ..

haha id love to see a book carried with every cop about type of modifications - and within each brand of mod. and a demerit point allocated to every brand haha. "ohh is this a high flow it it"

doesnt sound so great to me... and yeah the autobarn thing is a topic ive always wondered about,(i know its because they get tax off it but its stupid) why government/public complains when they sell these "illegal" products to us :D ... why cant we be like new zealand damn it!!!

Some interesting responses to this thread. Legally apart from confirming your identity and when asked telling them you were/are driving the car. You don't need to talk to the police as all, anything you say can and will be used against you. Even if you respond to a question before being cautioned, It can still be used. Co-operate with lawful instructions, apart from that don't say or do anything take the police person(s) details and if you feel that the fine/notice/summons was not lawfully given take them to court instead of just paying out.

There are many decent lawyers just out of University who will appreciate the experience, it will make the police who attended the incident get summoned to court, usually they come across very incompetent. I have done this a few times in SA and NSW I have had the fines rescinded on every occasion.

If you have your car registered in another state it also makes defecting the vehicle more difficult, I used to have a victorian address and my R34 was under a victorian reg, I was regularly in Melbourne, and Adelaide alot of the time. The SA police would pull me over for no reason (brake lights out when they weren't, on mobile phone, even when it was connected to the hands free kit etc) When asked why the car was under the registration of another state I said truethfully, "because I reside there."

I agree with this, when i had first moved over from ACT to here i kept both of my cars in the ACT licence as i was doing fly in fly out work with the Govt at the time, and spending almost as much time up there as down here.

Regency didnt even want to know about it. "Too hard" they said.

heres my tip, dont hide your turbo timer near fuse box, only to be pulled over and try to turn it off before the cop gets out, paniking and failing and having the turbo timer hanging right in front of his eyes.. sure is a good way to get a straight to regency, do not pass go and do not colect 200$ lol stupid me
