Hey everyone, just got a few queries about the R34 N/a skyline's . If anyone can answer any of these questions, thanks very much :) appreciate it heeps.

Are these cars fast for an N/a in the low rev range?

Also, are they faster in the higher rev's or in the lower rev range?

Are there any mods to increase the power in the low rev range?

Thanks in advance.

Luke.

they are a 2.5L engine, so will the be fast in the low rev range? no small engines and fast in low rev range doesn't really go together. that is why they rev up to 7000rpm. if you want speed without reving high, then go a falcon or commodore.

mate any car can be fast enough to get yourself warped around a pole, im sure a N/A skyline weather a R34 or not will be fast enough.

there is not a lot you can do without spending big money to get the power of a turbo.

I disagree, my na r34 is fast down low, they have more torque down low. Cant really say that there any faster in the high rev range. My car pulls pretty hard (for an N/A) after 2000rpm in 1st gear and then 2500 in 2nd and about 3-3500 in 3rd. all depends on how you like to drive your car. Only difference iv found is that reving high you dont change gears as often, thats *one* of the main differences..

Im not trying to argue or anything but some of the fords and holdens iv driven or driven in, are not fast down low, they are heavy and take a bit of time to get there power out.

that is actually incorrect. they aren't really much heavier than a skyline (depending on the model), but the reason they don't pull super hard is their tall gearing. to put it into perspective, the first gear on an auto v6 commodore is roughly as tall as second gear on manual 33. tha manual cars are not quite as tall, but still taller geared than a skyline. so next time you are out for a drive, try taking off hard in second gear and see how much slower it is, then keep that in mind next time you race a commodore or falcon. it puts into perspective just how well they perform considering this fact.

that said, i have owned a few aussie 6's and driven plenty more, and in manual form they are very quick in the low rpm area. as i said above, because of the tall gears they won't rev out quickly like a smaller engine with shorter gears, but the speed will rise quicker when compared with the rpm. you can feel the torque of them. that 1500 to 3000rpm power is very linear. what makes them feel slower is the fact that they don't have that urge come on higher in the rev range where the acceleration goes from being good to great. anyone who has driven a turbo s13 (or r32) then hoped into a turbo 33 will understand. the s13 is pretty average below about 4000rpm then it comes on nice and hard, however the 33 is nearly on full boost by 2500rpm so it doesn't feel as wild as the power is there from the moment you put your foot down so you don't get the rush, yet side by side they will perform pretty much evenly.

I'd have to say I did live with the tacho on the +4500rpm side, I really didn't feel the car was performing until the second butterfly was open and you had that nice change in pitch of the engine :P

I bounced hard of the redline pretty much all day in my 34. I know the auto could definately live with a higher-stall torque converter, the manual would be OK with some higher rpm launching.

    • Anyone want to make me an offer to take my v36/g37 3.7l manual coupe in full? Off memory it was low 100k km but the battery is flat so can't tell right now. What's wrong. I had engine problem's that led to a nice clunk. It made it home but it wasn't pretty for the last few kms. Happened under revs. Sounds like bottom end.. never got around to fully checking or fixing it so the car has sat still and unregistered for a few years. Minor bump in front end set the pedestrian protection under bonnet airbag off and that was meant to be repaired, but while waiting for the repair (parts to come) I got the engine problem. The rest of the car is in decent condition. All drive line is good. All interior is good. Leather interior. Wheels in good condition and decent tyres although the ps4s are likely a little too old now it's sat still. Colour of the car is pewter off memory, the dark grey colour. In Camden NSW. Would need a tray back pickup.

    • I started with the above in my head too, and I might be reading / thinking about what they want wrong, which is why I complicated it a bit further. Purpose I'm seeing is for the corner indicator to be on with headlights, and then if the indicator turns on it can still flash. The relay part above I can see working as required, except in the case of headlight is on, and indicator is on. The change over relay you've wired in would get signal from the indicator, and as it flashes would give power to the globe from the indicator, but as it flashes off, power comes from the headlight, which would cause the indicator to be constantly on when headlight is on, even while indicator change over is flashing. That is unless we don't care if it flashes or not if the headlight is on? I guess that's an OP clarification.
    • HI, Ive got an r34 gtt sedan A/T. The instrument cluster went out and I replaced it with another A/T everything visually looks the same and all the gauges work now with the exception of the speedometer and odometer. The speedo will stay pinned at zero until I'm going about 55kmh and then it'll say Im going about 5kmh. my odometer seems to be tracking at about a 1/10 of what it should. If I go 1km it'll say I've only gone 0.01. Appreciate any and all help. Ive tried searching through the forums reddit and a local fb group. The only info I think I've found is that some cars didnt come equipped with TCS (mind is) and the clusters may be different between those? I've also installed a brand new VSS and no joy obviously. TIA.
    • what speedo healer did you use?
