Hi guys,

Struggling with a bit of a decision at the moment, and that's to say enough is enough with the GT-T, sell it, don't spend anymore money and get a GTR or....

Go all out with the GT-T and REALLY finish it off. Do everything that you have ever thought of doing, and have a car that is truly unique.

As i'm sure we can all admit the allure of an R34 GTR is damn strong and really is the pinnacle of the Skylines and is actually fairly obtainable these days compared to only a few years ago. You can get a R34 GTR for mid 40's.

What i'm trying to decide is whether it's worth to spend anymore money on the GT-T? A few things are making the decision a bit hard...

My car is at 285rwkw at the moment, and i'm only a rear housing away (not that $$) from getting into the low 300'srwkw perhaps. Not exactly slow and if i bought a stock R34 GTR, i'd have a little catching up to do, to get it at the same level. But yes of course, there is A LOT of potential with the RB26, just unfortunate you kinda need 2 of a few things :)

So ontop of the cash difference in buying the GTR and selling the GT-T, i'd have to spend however much more to get it to the same performance.

The GT-T has almost been rounded out as well. Quite happy with the power, it has the full (or nearly full) SK Bilstein/Whiteline kit. It has (as far as i know) the only complete East Bear kit in Australia, and has nice 18's with very good offset, only a brake upgrade away from being pretty well rounded car.

The GTR however, would need to be bought, powered up, suspension changed and the "look" department...well... looked at :ninja: ontop of the purchase price. Good looking rims aren't cheap because they gotta be WIDE to fill the guards and the power-up dept is a bit pricey given the nature of x2 for some things. But it would be an R, the real deal, with ATTESSA (sp?), with the wider track, with the brembo's, with the RB26, etc etc... It would be the King, you'd know it, they'd know it, everyone else would know it.

The other option is to REALLY finish off the GT-T which basically means FULL interior upgrade, but not auto salon spec, i'm thinking GT3/2, Aston Martin DBS, Superleggerra spec interior. Black Alcantara, Bride etc. Pretty much everything re-done or changed.

Then the car would be pretty much complete and i would hope, a VERY capable, up-to-date, performance car. It would have the looks, the go, the turning and braking ability and a very slick interior. Now that's obviously quite a few thousand of $$'s away but i'm still what... $20K short between the GT-T price and GTR?

I guess basically, is an "every aspect covered" GT-T worth the effort over a R34 GTR? Would the GTR still just blow the GT-T away in all the performance aspects?

cheers,

daniel

I was in the same boat as you almost 12 months ago,

I ended up getting a V36 lol

you're already saying youself in your post if you get the GTR you'd be wanting to spend a bit more on it to get it where you want it to be. so extra outlay for the car + mods + maintenance. The mod bug is a hard bug to shake, I'm modding my car even though I swore bloody murder to myself it would remain stock

as you said, GTR is king

GT-t with crazy mods all round will be unique but will always be a GTt

Get the R34 GTR and leave it stock, you will be happy with that.

I think it's safe to disagree with that. From the original post it is clearly obvious that SS8_Gohan would not be happy with approx. 190-210 awkw in stock form (as we know 206 awkw is the listed factory specification but too many variables make that an entirely accurate guide).

However, the part I do agree with is get the GT-R!! A few years back (about 7 or 8 years I think?) I had a R33 GTS-t and while it was fun at the time, especially for my age (I was about 24)... There is no comparison to the GT-R I now own. Both vehicles had/have minor mods. I now feel that I own a car that I would be willing to dump a bit of cash into to bring out the best in it. My thoughts are I should be very happy with about 350 awkw (it will be done in stages of course). What also should be considered is that GT-R's were made to handle this sort of power (well for the most part)... AWD, ALSD, Brembo brakes, suspension/shocks (even more so in V-spec form), Recaro seats, etc. etc.

So in short, a GT-R just feels like so much more car to drive. It also just feels so good to know you are driving the real deal. I only wish I could come across someone in one of those GTS-t's made to look like a GT-R that I used to come across all the time in my GTS-t. I want to see them squirm with embarrasment :P as they know they are now driving a fake GT-R, it's not even a GTS-t anymore... I consider it a fake GT-R! LOL! :P

The day you sell your GT-T back, you won't get a good return.

Very true! I bought my GTS-t for about $20,000, spent about another $8,000 on it and then sold it for $17,000 2 1/2 years later. Unless you plan to keep the vehicle and enjoy the mods, consider them money spent that you will never get back. In some cases they may even work against the value of the car. This is something that I will always keep in mind when adding power upgrades to my car... 1) Will it affect value of the car? 2) Is the mod reversible if it ever came time to sell the car (a lot of buyers prefer things stock)?

wow... not much love for the T :P

it's just such a big initially outlay for the R + initial upgrade (not to mention trying to find a buyer these days)

i was actually leaning towards the T but now it's just plain difficult :P

With the Gtt putting so much cash into it you will never see again, you would have to enjoy it an if you would for a few years it may be worth it. Though the gtr is the king an looks hot. An when you get a gtr it wont thave the power your gtt has now an then you will have to do all that again?

Weighing up both sides is hard. I do want a gtr i have a gtt, but im not in as deep as you are. Also to get what you want when you sell yout gtt may be hard too.

well i guess i could always just do things to the T that i can transfer to the R?

If i got some Bride seats, i could swap to the R when/if i upgrade and i'm sure i'd be able to sell a pair of R34 GTR seats pretty easy judging by how quick they go in the for sale section (when priced sensibly). So that's not a huge $ exercise.

And if i changed the interior, i guess pretty much everything could be swapped to the R and then stock R stuff, could go back into the T if i were to sell...

hmmm... so i guess... i could kinda get the best of both worlds? have a nice T to drive around in for a bit, if i want to sell i can just transfer all that money spend into the R and i guess also make the T a bit more sell-able as it would have a GTR interior :) (minus the MFD unless i just transfer the carputer across)

what about perhaps going down that road?

*sigh*

I'm also in this state at the moment. The key issue for me is lumping that much cash into the GT-R, which I know I'll want to pour more into for modifications.

Even if a reasonable amount could be obtained for the GT-T, we'd be looking at an additional 20k minimum for a resonable condition GT-R....

I was even thinking about jumping over to the, *gulp*, side of the Evo 8 MR. They appear to be a fair price for car, some excellent examples going for roughly 35k....

Need to get rich ;)

you will not be satisfied going from 285rwkw to a stock GTR... it will feel slow and you'll want to modify it... with the extra weight and grip you will want a 300rwkw+ R to feel like you have stepped into a quicker car

I did a similar thing recently, went from a 260rwkw GTSt to a 360rwkw GTR (33 tho not 34)... I was thinking the same as you and my best advice is to go the GTR if you can afford one that has already had the works done to it... if not stick with your car... standard GTR's have too much grip+weight to be anywhere near as fun as a 450+hp rear drive skyline... especially one you have spent so much time and money on

I wouldn't worry about what other people on the road think of you... the majority couldn't tell the difference between a GTT and GTR even if they were inside one

The accountant said, "beware of overcapitalisation"

The G/F said, "whatever makes you happy sweetie"

The prospective mother-in-law said, "your existing car would make a good deposit on a home right?"

The bank manager said, "boy do I have a loan package for your new GT-R"

The priest said, "your donation of a GT-X Skyline or whatever it is, will be appreciated by all the poor people at St Vinnies"

The blind man on the street corner said, "I can't tell the difference"

Your mother said, "will the new car still bring you back home safely?"

Your dad said, "I wish I had the balls when I was younger to get that GT-HO over my Datto 1600"

Your mate said, "can it get us around the corner better than the last one?"

And your dog can still piss on either one...

I know the feels. I haven't spent much on mine at all yet! But thinking about what i want to do, and how much it will all cost. I've found myself thinking about leaving it all and saving for the GT-R! But the "MOD BUG" is present in my body and i can't seem to shake it. There is just something about modding a car that makes me feel amazing.

So i've sort of decided to stick with your basic/common mods for some extra rwkw's, But at the end of the day it will never be the KING the GT-R. It's honestly a hard choice, at the end of the day it is your CAR and its not what others think it's what you think.

In an ideal world in a few years i'd love to buy a GT-R and keep my GT-T aswell, but thats so far out of my reach at the moment. Things change quick nowadays, Just go with what you want to do, who knows in 10 years you may be able to afford a GT-R and keep your unique GT-T for that RWD fun :)

^
agreed but again, it depends what do you wanna do with the car?

if i want to go drift prefer sr20

touring then r32 engine with any cheap good chasis, and call mine's to tune it lol

but if you got big bucks then vspec nur it is :)
